Cover Reveal for “Captain Wentworth in His Own Words”!
I just love the cover design process! It’s where my twin interests in writing and art intersect. Each book presents a new creative challenge as my graphic designer tries to translate the vision in my head into a workable reality. I’ll show you the exciting results in just a moment. But first, a bit of “strip tease” fun to show how we got there!
First, since Captain Wentworth in His Own Words is part of a series (or maybe more accurately, a “collection”), I wanted to use the same basic format as...

The Guardians of Pemberley – new date

Reynolds: The Guardians of Pemberley
Bad news, folks – I’m delaying the release of The Guardians of Pemberley for a month. As some of you know, I’ve had some challenges this year as my beloved Mr. R faces a cascade of health problems. We hoped we’d reached the turning point in mid-August, but alas! It turns out there’s yet another problem to be dealt with. So while I’d rather be studying magic at Pemberley, I’ve been practicing nursing skills.
The good news is that the book is all but done, and ...

A Free Book for My Birthday!
So, tomorrow is my birthday! As I approach the ripe old age of 48, I have come to believe that birthday gifts are just as fun to give as to receive. Therefore, on September 2, please accept my gift: The Year in Between: A Sense and Sensibility Variation, for free!
Though I am trying to pass myself off as generous and magnanimous, the truth is, I was thinking of my birthday (thinking of myself) and then thinking of a character I love who (like me) tends to tangle her sincere love of others with...

The Tenth Anniversary of Crescent City, by Jack Caldwell

Greetings everyone. Jack Caldwell here.
Twenty years ago, the United States suffered one of the worst natural disasters in its history. I am speaking of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina. This monster storm affected 90,000 square miles (233,000 km²), approximately the area of Great Britain. The value of the damage is estimated at $108 billion— or $178 billion in 2025 dollars. Over one million people evacuated, and 70,000 were rescued.
And 1,838 people lost their liv...

Prelude to Pemberley: Darcy encourages Bingley to think about a country estate
20th of August 1811
The acrid smoke from a nearby gentleman smoking a pipe burnt Darcy’s nostrils as he entered the cardroom at White’s, and he crinkled his nose. Why did Bingley enjoy this diversion so much? The cardroom always reeked of the tobacco from those who fancied a smoke while they wagered their money with little to no regard of the consequences.
Bingley did deserve some credit, however. He once told Darcy how he had a set limit to how much he could or would lose on a given day be...

How to write a book about blackmail . . . without calling it blackmail
One of the interesting challenges for JAFF writers is the ever-evolving nature of the English language. All languages change over time, leaving modern French speakers trying to read Old French, like the Eulalia text:
Buona pulcella fut eulalia./ Bel auret corps bellezour anima/ Voldrent la veintre li deo Inimi.
almost as lost as your average English speaker would be at trying to read Beowulf:
Hwæt. We Gardena in geardagum,/ þeodcyninga, þrym gefrunon,/ hu ða æþelingas ellen fremedon.
