Brougham Horse
A brougham (pronounced “broom” or “brohm”) was a light, four-wheeled horse-drawn carriage built in the 19th century. It was named after Scottish jurist Lord Brougham, who had this type of carriage built to his specification by London coachbuilder Robinson & Cook in 1838 or 1839.

An unknown artist produced this engraving around 1800. Today the church still looks almost exac...

The Minuet

The text to the picture in the periodical reads as follows: “A minuet, the dance in which male and female can display in equal measure innate and acquired charm, sufficed to put a large, elegant society in the most cheerful mood; gallantry still stood in full bloom…” Different from this wood engraving, the painting by Schmutzler was...

North Court House
My second novel is illustrated with original engravings. Some years ago I started collecting them. I found them at rummage sales, second hand book shops or in the internet. I love those fine pieces of art of yesteryear and want to share them with you.
My first blog post is about the picture that you see on my home page. It is also the illustration of the first chapter of “Lady on an Outing” (the English version is coming soon).
The picture is a copper engraving from 1796 made by William Angu...
