BOWRAL LONG LUNCH – JULY 2024

You might remember a couple of years back I painted live at the Bowral Long Lunch … well, it’s happening again! This time I’ll be painting a darling doggo. What type of doggo, you ask? Ah well, you’ll just have to wait and see …

This marvellous event is an initiative of the Bowral District Children’s Foundation, operated by a committed and 100% voluntary committee.

My painting, along with those of other fabulous artists, will be auctioned at the Lunch to raise much needed funds to improve the health and wellbeing of Children and Youth in our local area (the Southern Highlands of NSW). Hope to see you there!

Artists will be gathering in studios and galleries across the Southern Highlands NSW and you mustn’t miss this once-a-year chance to wander the Highlands experiencing the work of local creatives, meeting the artists in their studios, seeing where and how they create their work … and buy something wonderful for yourself or a friend! HOW TO WIN THE FLYING FORD ANGLIA PAINTING

We are a family of prolific readers and I am SO fortunate to be a parent of that generation which immersed themselves in the joy of Harry Potter. Every book is even now treasured, stored carefully on the very top bookshelf and I can probably still recite Every Single Spell by memory! The opportunity to share each book and movie with our daughter is something I’ll always cherish.

Here’s something I’ve been wanting to paint for AGES … I’m sure you all know what it is and which book it’s from.

ONE very lucky Harry Potter-lover will win this painting inspired by the iconic Flying Ford Anglia from the movie Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets at the close of the 2022 Southern Highlands Art Trail.

Raffle tickets will be sold at my studio over both weekends and the winner drawn on SUNDAY 13th NOVEMBER at 2PM. All proceeds of raffle tickets sold will be donated to funding for Guide Dogs for Children’s Mobility, helping children with low vision or blindness develop skills to understand and move through the world.

RECENT PROJECTS (yep, it’s all about the doggos!)

And finally, some non-doggish content …

WARNING: MUCH FOOD WAS HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS ARTWORK

And now for something completely different … a triptych inspired by my favourite restaurant on the Amalfi Coast, La Conca del Sogno and creating it was SO MUCH FUN!

The first panel includes fresh chrysanthemums, crusty Italian bread and warm olives. Centre panel features Pasta Al Limone by Vincenzo’s Plate and wine with fresh peaches. The right hand panel was inspired by the restaurant’s lemon-based dessert platter included limoncello-filled white chocolate balls and it was TO DIE FOR! Stunning jug and dinnerware is by Meg Patey Ceramics.

LA CONCA DEL SOGNO

Triptych | Oil on Linen | 61cm x 183cm

Available now at Bluethumb

Happy first day of spring! Or autumn! Hope to see many old (and new) friends in the Highlands during the Art Trail in November, have a fabulous weekend,

R X

DREAM MACHINES at The Fenwick

WOWZERS! This exhibition is going to be FUN!

Sydney-siders, you’ve probably already heard about this magnificent building but for everyone else …

Built in the 1880’s, The Fenwick is located in an historic stone building in Balmain East, with sweeping views of the Harbour and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The building was formerly known as the J. Fenwick & Co Boat Store and was originally built for use as a tugboat store. Following significant refurbishments, this historic site has been repurposed as an absolute waterfront dining destination with a focus on fresh and seasonal local produce. The second floor has been transformed into an immersive gallery space, where guests can enjoy the works of local and international artists while they dine.

I’m revealing lots of new works which I hope you’ll love – some inspired by our beautiful NSW Southern Highlands, some wonderful classic cars and, of course as always, a bit of whimsy!

CANYONLEIGH

So, a few months ago Mikey took me on a lovely drive through the hills and dales of Canyonleigh, in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Suddenly I yelled: “Wait! Back up!” And there sat these three beautiful old beasts, abandoned in a field. Well, of course you know what came next. This will be on exhibit at the Fenwick exhibition. About 120 hours work compressed into just under 3 minutes. Enjoy.

Oil on Canvas, 76.3cm x 101.6cm

JUST DELIVEREDCHILLI AND LILA feat. 1956 Porsche 356A Speedster Oil on Canvas 91.5cm x 122cm

Can you believe this is the first Porsche I’ve EVER painted – a wonderful custom commission for a Sydney client featuring the iconic 1956 Porsche 356A Speedster and their beloved moodles, Chilli and Lila. The brief was a beach scene with lots of tropical foliage and a specific colour palette.

The car itself is inspired by Porsche’s Fjord Green, the rarest of all listed 356 colours. Only 72 were painted in this colour and only six had the Super engine. A bit like British Racing Green (which, incidentally, is the hardest colour of all to paint! Followed by yellow!!)

FEELING A WEE BIT FINCH-Y

When that finch-y feeling hits there’s no fighting it, trust me. Here’s a dyptych created just before Christmas and now hanging proudly in a Sydney bedroom. Head over to my socials to watch the work-in-progress videos.

MAGNOLIAS AND FINCHES” Oil on Linen, 2 Panels each 61cm x 76.3cm

A LABOUR OF LOVE“THE ONE-ARMED COLANDER” Oil on Canvas 40cm Tondo

In 2019 we travelled to visit dear friends in the UK. I wandered up to their greenhouse which was flourishing and full of lovely red tomatoes and peppers. I collected them all in a colander with one handle and have treasured that image all this time, waiting to re-create it on canvas. I presented the painting to them during their recent visit to the Highlands.

See you all at The Fenwick! Rxx

DREAM MACHINES at the Royal Automobile Club of Australia

FULL THROTTLE, WINDOWS DOWN, TONGUES OUT

Yes, I KNOW I wasn’t planning to have ANY exhibitions this year. But just when I took my foot off the accelerator and eased gently into idle, wonderful new opportunities appeared in the rear vision mirror, nudging my brilliantly burnished bumper bar and propelling my Dream Machines back into the fast lane. Yep, okay, enough with the puns.

So thrilled to announce my next exhibition at the hallowed halls of the Royal Automobile Club of Australia, the mecca of classic car lovers. The exhibition will be held in the Harbour Room on Level 7 with spectacular views of Sydney Harbour.

DREAM MACHINES at the RACA

Harbour Room, Level 7

SATURDAY 9 APRIL – FRIDAY 6 MAY

GORDANA IS GOING TO THE MOON!

OHMYGOLLYGOSH I’m going to the MOON! Or rather, my artwork “Gordana” is.

“She palpated the cold iron, running each key between her fingers one by one.”

Physicist, entrepreneur and film producer Dr Samuel Peralta, in collaboration with 33 Contemporary Gallery and PoetsArtists platform, curated “SHELTER” – an exhibition in direct response to the global pandemic, seeking works that evoked shelter, solace, safety.

“All of us are living today in a shared experience that is unprecedented in living memory – a pandemic that arrived suddenly, almost without warning, a pandemic so pervasive that its influence touches everyone we know, everything we do, everywhere we go. Sometimes we feel like there is no escape, no respite. They tell us to distance ourselves from each other, from what makes us human, to shelter in place… And yet in those words there is the key to survival, far more than just physical survival. There is the one place that we can go, where we can remain ourselves, continue with the lives we’ve made. It is a place of safety that we conjure for ourselves – a quietude bounded by walls or disinfectant, or circumscribed by the arms of a child, or in the words of a prayer. For each one of us it is different, but for all of us it is the center of our quiet, our calm in the eye of the hurricane, our shelter.”— S. Peralta

A compilation of over 7000 works of contemporary, art, literature and music from around the world will be digitally archived in The Lunar Codex. The Peregrine, Nova C and Polaris Time Capsules are scheduled to land on the moon between 2022 and 2024 in partnership with NASA, Space X and Astrobotics. It is a message-in-a-bottle to the future. Note: Catalogue only available as a lunar edition.

The original painting, an illustration from my second novel, THE LEGACY OF BEAUREGARDE is available for purchase on Artsy:

RESTORING AN OLD DAMAGED OIL PAINTING

So, while wet paint layers were drying, I tackled another long overdue project – Restoring a Damaged Old Oil Painting. It belongs to good friends and was painted many years ago by their Aunty May. Now, I’m not by any means an art restorer and was a bit terrified of making a hash of the whole thing but they gave me their blessing and so I ploughed ahead. I didn’t want to interfere with the artist’s original work (sorry Aunty May!) and tried to interpret what was there before.

Thank you for taking a moment out of your busy day – I hope that my doings have lightened your day for even just a few minutes and helped put a smile on your face.

Big hugs to all! Rx

DREAM MACHINES Primavera

It’s with great pleasure that I invite you to the opening of my solo exhibition DREAM MACHINES Primavera on Friday 5 November 6PM.

My show at Bowral Art Gallery earlier this year was a huge success, and I’m so glad to be bringing a selection of new works to Sydney. Please come along, have a glass of bubbles and enjoy! DREAM MACHINES Primavera will run for four days (4-7 November 10AM-4PM DAILY).

FOR THE SCOOTERISTS:

Sandy will be holding a RIDE OUT departing 11AM on Sunday 7th November, back to Scooter Meccanica afterwards for bubbles!

ROSE PINK CADILLAC

A few weeks ago Angus Stone (of Angus and Julia Stone / Dope Lemon) picked up my little video of Rose Pink Cadillac and reposted it on his socials – clearly a thoughtful and generous person. After that things went a bit crazy!

Needless to say the painting (and a few others) sold before it was even dry and the new owner has kindly allowed me to exhibit it at the show.

Anyhow, just wanted to say if there’s anything you’ve seen you’d like to dibs prior to the show please do let me know.

PAINTING COOPER

And for those of you that just can’t get excited about cars (shock horror no!) here’s something doggo related. This is darling Cooper; he came to stay for a week in January and then this happened. Ain’t he the doggiest doggo of all doggos?

DOGGO PORTRAIT

I have only one availability left for a doggo or kittypuss portrait for December 2021 delivery, let me know if you’d like to reserve the place.

Photo by Faye York and Anthony Parker @meyouphotography

Look forward to seeing you all in November.

Yours with even more excitement (and a soupçon of nervousness) R xx

It’s easy to buy any of my artworks contact free, simply send an ENQUIRY on the artwork you wish to purchase to rosafedeleartist@gmail.com and I will respond, take online payment and arrange delivery of your new painting after the show. Simple!

Scooter Meccanica wishes to ensure the well-being of guests, staff and the community. Guests are requested to please wear masks and be double-vaxxed. If you are feeling unwell we ask that you not attend.

DREAM MACHINES

SOLO EXHIBITION | 1-6 April 2021

It’s been 16 years (yes, you heard right, SIXTEEN!!) since my last solo exhibition. Somehow, between writing, publishing and launching novels, painting commissions and taking part in group shows, the idea of a solo show was far too overwhelming. Fact is, it takes a LONG TIME to build a body of work. It’s hard yakka, actually.

But it is now done and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been engrossed in the past eighteen months.

The show will be fun, whimsical, joyful … guaranteed to put a smile on your lips and take your imagination far away to a place of nostalgia and beauty, through the countryside in your favourite classic convertible, Italian silk scarf billowing in the breeze and faithful hound by your side. Here’s a sneak peek:

The words Excitement, Nerves and Sheer Terror are very much applicable to my current state of mind. But there will be bubbles. And that always helps.

The dates coincide spiffingly with the extra long weekend in autumn (April 1-6) with the opening night at Bowral Art Gallery on Friday 2 April 6:30PM, so start planning your trip to the stunning Southern Highlands now!

Here’s a video of the creation of FIRENZE. It’s a big ‘un – 91.5cm x 122cm. I still can’t get used to the idea of compressing hours and hours of work into a couple of minutes. But I know everyone loves seeing the process, so enjoy!

Congratulations to Alison and Jeremy, the successful bidders for the FJ and FB Holden paintings! Monies raised went straight towards the EARLY BIRD CAFE, providing hot breakfasts for those in need each weekday from the Macquarie Street steps of St Stephen’s Church, Sydney.

Limited Editions prints are available for order now!

Hope to see you all at the exhibition in April,

Hugs R x

PS I’ll take this moment to apologise to my fam and friends for the calls I haven’t returned and the visits I haven’t made … you KNOW how focused (read “obsessive”) I get during a project ?? Mwah ?

BEEN WONDERING WHY I’VE STARTED PAINTING VESPAS?

During the Art Trail I was asked over and over “Why do you paint Italian scooters?”

Here’s why: Not so long ago one of my dear aunties unearthed a previously never-before-seen photograph of my mother, aged 17 on a scooter with her brother in a laneway in their home town in Calabria, Italy.

As many of you know, my mother died when I was a baby and I didn’t ever have to chance to know her so you can just imagine how entranced I was by this picture … couldn’t stop looking at it actually.

The photo was grainy and a little tattered around the edges but I took it to my image genius at Arthead who cleaned it up and enlarged it. It now hangs proudly on our wall, our daughter has the other copy.

And thus my love of Vespas began. Which then led me to …

ABEND 30TH ANNUAL MINIATURES SHOW

Kept this secret for aaages and bursting to tell …

FOUR OF MY NEW DARLING VESPAS HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR THE 30th ANNUAL ABEND MINIATURES SHOW in DENVER, COLORADO! YAAAY!   They’ve arrived safely at the gallery in time for the show and I’m terribly excited (can you tell?) to be hanging amongst remarkable artists from around the world. Congratulations to everyone!

Here are the four paintings … they were literally the first Vespas I ever painted and kept under wraps wondering whether to bring them into the world.

MILANO I and II

ORVIETO I and II

The exhibition opens 5th December through until 9th January. Paintings are available for purchase, inquiries to curator@abendgallery.com or simply click the PURCHASE button. Here’s the link. Have a squiz, some amazing work to feast your eyes on: https://www.abendgallery.com/show/abend-gallery-30th-annual-holiday-miniatures-show

If you pop over to my Gallery | Vespa.rt you’ll see some of the vintage scooters I’ve painted thus far – they’re each named after Italian towns, eg. Bardolino, Positano, San Gimignano etc. So much fun and I’m dying to create more … I’ll take a short break over the holidays then get straight back into it.

I’ll have an exciting announcement in the New Year so hang on to your handlebars!

Happy holidays to everyone and see you in 2021,

Rx
