For me, "blocks" are all about lack of creative inspiration. When the muses flee, going back and re-working already written content reconnects me to the overall story. As I'm cleaning up a sentence, or a paragraph or even noticing something odd about how a concept is presented, I'll often get a flash of inspiration to kick me back into creative mode. Then I just jump to the area where the inspiration sends me and start drafting again.(less)

You don't write because you want to be famous, which is what many "aspiring" writers really want down deep inside. You write because you HAVE to; because the characters your over-active imagination has created are driving you to distraction with their antics. As a gay man, I've often told those far-right zealots who seek out gays to bully that NO one would ever volunteer to be beat up, spat upon, ridiculed, excluded from events and family gatherings, in order to love another man. You do that because you have no choice. Same thing for writers. It's not something you sit down one day and "just do it" as the old adage goes. So, is that advice? I don't know. There are an awful lot of awful writers out there who think they've just written the next great American novel. Maybe I'm one of them. I certainly see a lot of people running for cover when I mention my latest work. LOL(less)

“If history has taught me anything, it’s that there is no action so depraved that a human mind can’t rationalize it into banality. And once that’s happened, it’s only a small step to celebrate the evil act as if it’s somehow moral and empowering.”
David Welch, Wrath of the Hegemons

“when you know a person well enough, you stop noticing the physical details, the stuff you’d notice the first time you saw somebody. You just start seeing them, the person they are,”
David Welch, Wrath of the Hegemons

“Perhaps, instead of teaching children that pride goeth before a fall, and subtly encouraging them not to try, we should be teaching them instead how to get back up from that fall, and see the shortcomings their pride blinded them to.”
David Welch, Wrath of the Hegemons

“it’s not the stars that create light, but rather light that creates the stars.”
Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

Miguel Ruiz
“The Gospel of John in the Bible, speaking of the creation of the universe, says, “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word is God.” Through the word you express your creative power. It is through the word that you manifest everything. Regardless of what language you speak, your intent manifests through the word. What you dream, what you feel, and what you really are, will all be manifested through the word. The word is not just a sound or a written symbol. The word is a force; it is the power you have to express and communicate, to think, and thereby to create the events in your life.”
Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom
