Picture Your Character

My Husband's Wife by Jane Corry My Husband's Wife by Jane Corry Today I finished making my picture board for the novel I am currently writing!

Sometimes I need to write a few chapters before I can see my characters clearly in my head.

Then I start leafing through supplements and mags to find anyone who looks similar. Often I will have two or three different pictures for one person. One might have my imagined character's wistful expression. Another might have her hair. And a third might show how she walks along a pavement.

I put these pictures on a cork board next to my desk. It really helps me to describe them - and it also gives me ideas on plot. Why is the woman's hand behind her back? Is she hiding something? Try it yourself! Do let me know what you think.
