My Favorite Thrillers
It's Mystery and Thriller Week on Goodreads, which makes it the perfect time for a big, fat, juicy list.
After much soul-searching and shelf browsing and re-reading, I've compiled a list of a dozen of my favorite mysteries and thrillers. Each one of these books was a white-knuckle read for me. I couldn't put them down.
So, without further ado, here they are, in order of when they were published:
AND THEN THERE WERE NONE by Agatha Christie
A stone-cold classic.
ROSEMARY'S BABY by Ira Levin
Apartment hunting has never looked so scary.
MISERY by Stephen King
Tense. Gripping. And proof that there's nothing more terrifying than writer's block.
THE SECRET HISTORY by Donna Tartt
Read this my freshman year of college, which is the absolute perfect time to read it.
THE ALIENIST by Caleb Carr
Historical suspense at its best.
TELL NO ONE by Harlan Coben
This was my first visit to Coben country. I've been back many times since then.
THE DA VINCI CODE by Dan Brown
It became such an over-hyped phenomenon that many people forget how much fun it was to read. I don't.
SPECIAL TOPICS IN CALAMITY PHYSICS by Marisha Pessl
I loved this book with the power of a thousand hearts.
WHAT THE DEAD KNOW by Laura Lippman
And this was my first trip to Lippman country. I've also been back many times.
DARK PLACES by Gillian Flynn
Yes, GONE GIRL gets all the praise, but this one is darker and more disturbing.
DARE ME by Megan Abbott
Cheerleader noir. What more do you need?
THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW by A.J. Finn
A Valentine to Hitchcock lovers like me, with a wonderful, unreliably wry narrator at its center.
I know I've forgotten some, which will no doubt pop into my head in the dead of night. Still, it's an excellent list, if I do say so myself. How many have you read? And what mysteries and thrillers would you add?
