Favorite Books
So I've been gone for two weeks as I begin my book tour -- starting in Brooklyn, ending like three months later. It's been so much fun connecting with all you readers out there -- in real life! in a real room!
One of the common questions I get is about my favorite books, so I thought I'd build up a new shelf here that I could direct people to: My All Time Favorites.
You can find it here.
Hope you enjoy! Happy reading.

It's Pub Day!
You know, before all this book stuff happened, I thought that "Pub Day" meant going to a bar and having a few pints with friends.
Now, though, that term means something completely different. Now it means that my novel has finally arrived!
I began writing it in 2004.
I finished a first draft in 2013.
It sold to Knopf in February, 2015.
And now, finally, in August, 2016, it's actually here.
It's the end of a long road, and the beginning of another. Thanks to all who helped make it happen.

THE NIX in the New York Times
Two more days until THE NIX is published, and I continue to find myself amazed and grateful beyond words at the book's reception so far. The most recent unbelievable thing is that a story about THE NIX landed on the cover of the New York Times Arts section yesterday.
Even more unbelievable was the headline: "Nathan Hill is compared to John Irving. Irving compares him to Dickens."
Just, wow.
Here's a link to the online edition:

Enjoy!

Researching THE NIX
Quite a few people have asked me what kind of research went into writing THE NIX, so I've put together a Goodreads shelf that lists all the books that informed my writing.
You can find it here.
It's pretty obvious why I consulted most of these books (the stuff about Chicago, the stuff about online gaming). Other titles have a more oblique connection. For example, WE FEEL FINE is an investigation of the emotions that people express on social media, which helped inspire the fictional iFeel app in THE NIX.
Wondering about any of the other titles? Feel free to shoot me a question.
Thanks for reading!
