Secondly, write daily. Even if you write shit one day, next day, write again.

Thirdly, there might be times when self-doubt will obscure your sensibilities. Share your first couple of chapters with someone who has not read them before. If they don't like them, you know you have to re-work on them and if they do, you will get motivation to write the next few chapters. Keep such 20 friends ready :)

And finally, re-write as many times as you can. Every time you revisit a sentence or a paragraph, you will be in a different state of mind than you were when you visited it last. That will bring in a fresh perspective and will help make it better. (less)

I am too new a writer to comment on something as abstruse as that, but will still give my two cents.

The key is to never stop writing. Having professional responsibilities as well, I dedicate 1 hour every day to writing. There are times when I have a pen in my hand, but am not at my creative best. It is important to accept that such moments are a very critical part of the overall learning process.

Even if the word, sentence, paragraph or even the chapter that I wrote was cringe-worthy, it fired up my grey-cells. Every failed idea sows the seeds of a brilliant one. The key is to nurture the plant. Daily.
