What can the story of a  sexy housewife turned radio jock...

What can the story of a  sexy housewife turned radio jockey teach an aspiring CEO?

If you’ve watched ‘Tumhari Sulu’ you probably know what I’m talking about. And if you haven’t , go see it now. It’s the story of Sulochana aka Sulu, the desperate housewife. Sulu is desperate – for a  career, a job , or the chance to be an entrepreneur.

Those Winter Sundays

Sundays too my father got up early

and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold,

then with cracked hands that ached

from labor in the weekday weather made

banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him.

and polished my good shoes as well.

What did I know, what did I know

Moving from  petty crime to comedy show host is a pretty remarkable career transformation. And after you read ‘Born a Crime‘  , you begin to understand why. The story of  Trevor Noah, host of popular The Daily Show on Comedy Central,  is a remarkable tale , and one worth reading.

Noah was born in...

If You Have Stayed at an Airbnb, Read This Story (Or Even If You Haven’t)

Last year at this time , we were living in Nicholas’ flat. A living room full of books, pencil sketches of cats and horses, and a dining room with a polished mahogany table. Even our hard to please three teenage daughters were charmed. And this sumptuous apartment, next to the Jardins du Trocadero was less than the price of two Parisian hotel rooms. Such is the power of the famous 6 letter word in today’s holiday & hospitality world – Airbnb.

If you have stayed in an Airbnb apartment, you’d p...

A Swedish Murder , an Immigrant Victim & 2 Nymphomaniacs

Commissioner Martin Beck is the original Swedish detective, the inspiration for cops like Henning Mankell’s Kurt Wallander.  Written years ago , much before the popular Girl with the Dragon Tattoo , it was even was made into  a popular Hollywood movie. Very Scandinavian. The weather is gloomy, the landscape is lonely and brooding and there is an undercurrent of violence.

It’s hard being a policeman. Martin Beck has a bad back and a nagging wife. He’s lately taken to sleeping on the extra bed...

How I Ended up Dancing to Zalimma on a Saturday Afternoon

Holidays are a time for fun, but it also makes you wonder where you are heading in terms of your career. I binge watched ‘Entourage’ only to have an existential crisis . And then decided to save my life by heading for a career fair .

It had been advertised in the Times of India the day before and promised lots of interesting workshops . At noon, when I entered the Sahara Star conference rooms on the 3rd floor, where the fair was, there must have been at least 200 visitors. But it didn’t feel...
