From Inside the Quarantine: Governor Games

Lately, my sister and I have been playing this one-upmanship game: which of us has the dumbest governor in America. Although I was born and raised in Florida, I am currently making my home in Georgia. My sister, though, is still in Florida. So almost everyday, we compare notes on the most recent dumb decision made by the governors of Florida and Georgia.

And yes, I have to use the word dumb because Read more of this blog post »

“How do you explain to a child of New York, a student at Howard University, what it would be like down in Mississippi? Mississippi had defied every federal law, denied blacks of every right the Courts had promised them. Mississippians murdered their black citizens under the sun and in the cover of darkness.”
L.L. Farmer, Black Borne

“I couldn’t press upon this eager young woman that down in the South, the states didn’t recognize federal law. They took the law into their own hands and called it states’ rights. Black people were beaten into submission by domestic terrorists just as evil as those labeled international terrorists decades later.”
L.L. Farmer, Black Borne

“President Roosevelt had said and done great things to get America back on track after the Depression. He had even spearheaded the New Deal, but it seemed like Negroes were getting the same Old Deal. When President Truman desegregated the armed forces, Frank like so many other black veterans, hoped that other changes were coming. But America took Negro taxes and didn't put the dollars back into Negro communities. It was nothing but a rape and pillage of the Negro people, and he hated it.”
L.L. Farmer, Black Ghost
