I focus back on the task at hand, guiding Wolf away from prying eyes and ears before he says something that will get him killed.
But Wolf notices my two Brides leaving too. His finger, unsteady yet determined, points directly at Selene, his words slurred but clear: "Get out while you can, love."
She nods, a silent acknowledgment of a warning perhaps long expected, and leaves without a word.
Wolf's attention, however, swiftly shifts. His gaze moves, heavy with alcohol, and he points upwards. "But you, you can stay." His words float up to Amira, who leans over the railing, curiosity etched into her features.
Anger crashes through me, and in a moment of decision, my hands release their grip on Wolf, a calculated risk. His body, unprepared for the sudden absence of support, sways and then crashes against the banister, the impact sharp and sudden. The combination of the blow and the alcohol coursing through his veins proves too much, and his lights go out, his body slumping to the ground in a heap of silence.
"Alcohol thins the blood, Diarmuid. A hit like that could kill him." Lorcan glances around to see if anyone saw, his disapproval of my actions evident in his tone.

“You have made a right mess.” Richard’s voice should startle me, but it doesn’t. I continue my destruction as I pull all the dresses out of the wardrobe.
I ignore him as I throw the clothes into the tub and turn on both taps.
“What are you doing?” His voice carries over the rushing water, and I give him a quick look before walking back to my bed and dragging the quilts off it.
Everything goes into the bathtub, and I get a feeling like I’m drunk and the world is dissolving around me as I build my own. This world is filled with water.
All the towels join everything else in the tub.
“You want to tell me why you are destroying your room?”He’s right behind me, and I pause in my path of destruction.
I think of my answer as my heart pounds in my stomach. I can feel my heartbeat in my teeth; the flicker should be a warning, but I am drowning, and I don’t think I want to breathe. “No.” I bark.

His words should drive fear into my heart. “I can’t let you go.” They don’t. They pump hope into my system, and I get out of the bed.
I grip the edge of the mattress and wait for the dizziness to pass before picking up my discarded black coloured pencil. I move to the center of the room and sit down and start to draw.
No matter how afraid I am, I had to try to win him over. He had said he couldn’t let me out. I had to give him a reason to free me. With that thought, I draw his face on the floor of my glass cage.

Maeve needs to learn a lesson.
“Kick in the door,” I say to Freddie, and he does as I say. Three slams of his large foot and the rotten door gives way. A woman wails from inside as Freddie enters, and my adrenaline accelerates as I march in behind him. This couldn’t be Maeve’s house. It’s a dump. The smell has me wanting to leave. I look up, and my gaze clashes with Maeve’s. I have a brief moment of wanting to step up to her and carry her out of this dive. But her gaze flares up, and I give her a grin that drips with a silent threat.
Her gaze dances around the hall, and she’s moving to the wailing woman.
“Get out!” Her red eyes tell me she’s been crying. A fresh flow of guilt filters through my veins, but I remember how brazen she was not long ago. She walked into my club, looking for money. Her eyes still held the same distaste they always did, ever since I can remember.
“Get your bags,” I speak calmly, not allowing the fire to ignite in my words.
“What have you done?” The woman asks Maeve and shakes her head. Straight away, I get the urge to defend Maeve.
“Nothing,” Maeve growls through clenched teeth.
I take another step towards her, and she stiffens.
“I said the deal is off.” Like fuck it’s off.
“Freddie here will pack your stuff.” I threaten and tilt my head. This is her final warning before I carry her to my jeep. The thoughts of touching her have me stepping closer. “Or maybe you want me to?” I grin, and heat travels up her neck.
Maeve glances at the woman who must be her mother. I know an alcoholic when I see one and smell one. I want out of this hell-hole.
I click my fingers. “I’ve been patient enough.”
