Of Lime Green Cars and Soap Opera Characters

One warm October evening, my hard-headed ass chose to wander around Red Hook to an Esperanza Spaulding concert at a warehouse.

(I had to Google her name because my brain wants to call her a 1990’s soap opera character. Anyway:)

I had a date. She was perfectly nice. Good-looking, interesting, attentive and bright. Though, nothing about her made me want to see her again. She felt the same. Afterwards, when we mutually ghosted, it was fine.

But on my way to the date, I saw a lime green muscle car parked right on the sidewalk, and snapped a picture.

A moment slipped into my pocket for later.

I filed it away, and in writing a scene that wasn’t supposed to be in Wax and WaneWax and Wane, it came back to me.

Writers, what’s the most random moment where you’ve found inspiration? Think of this, and put it in your pocket for later for your NaNoWriMo story.
