Junkyard by Lindsay Buroker

A book review by Elliot Jackman

This is a story about a theft that happened from a warehouse on a remote planet. There is a missing quantity of maple syrup from a warehouse that produces this nectar from a seed of trees from Earth.

The detective, McCall Richter in the case, who usually doesn’t do this type of work is accompanied by an android named “Scipio”. They eventually find that this is a typical theft but only after some tribulation.

They work through the theft and eventuall...

The Pattern Ship by Tobias Roote

A book review by Elliot Jackman

This is the first book in the “Pattern Universe” series.

This book is available on Kindle Unlimited, but I see it is also available on Barnes and Noble at the time of this review. Since this is a breach of the Terms of Service for KU, I would expect one or the other to change at some point.

The story is about an alien intelligence (not a being) that is stranded on Earth millions of years in the past in a survival pod of sorts. Eventually, natural ca...

Descent into the Void by Steve P. Vincent

A book review by Elliot Jackman

I really enjoyed reading this first in-the-series book from Steve Vincent. It’s a story about a future Marine that has a tough time of it. The Marines are sent all over on missions that often have a high casualty rate causing most not ever to return.

Sergeant Talon Stiler makes if through ten years and finally is out with all the perks it allows him. He gets home to find his wife in bed with another man and doesn’t know what else to do but re-enlist. ...

The Displaced Collection by Stephen Drake

A book review by Elliot Jackman

I admittedly was a little put off by the protagonist, Kevin Murdock, at the beginning of the first book. I kept reading and eventually enjoyed the story and the characters. I read all three books and sincerely wanted to know what happened to everyone. Considering the premise that the people selected for settling on a new planet were chosen because they overthink, don’t listen, and don’t follow instructions, it’s not too hard to imagine that things might turn ou...

Oblivion’s Blade by Dylan McFadyen

A book review by Elliot Jackman

Oblivion’s Blade is another blockbuster story in the series about Warden/Shaara. If you haven’t already purchased his first book, Oblivion’s Cloak, then you need to stop reading this and do that right now. You’ve got it? Great, now we can continue…

Oblivion’s Cloak by Dylan McFadyen

A book review by Elliot Jackman

First in the Series by Dylan McFadyen

SHAARA WAS DEAD. Tell me that a story that starts this way doesn’t cause a little bit of curiosity. I’ve read many books with great first paragraphs, then devolve into nonsensical banter. This is NOT one of those books. Dylan’s book is one where I tell myself I’ll just read to the next break and then go to sleep. I say that to myself six or eight times.

Reading ...

Hide in Time

A book review by Elliot Jackman

BY ANNA FAVERSHAM

Independent Author / Publisher

This is a great story that is half about the relationship between two women that start of as a matchmaker (Laura) and client (Xandra) that eventually develop a great friendship. The other half is about lost love and misunderstandings that ruined Laura’s relationship with a man she was deeply in love with. The story is set in England.

The story starts in modern times and chronicles Laura’s work as a...

Seeds of Change – An Aride Universe Novel

A book review by Elliot Jackman

BY WILLOW THOMSON

ASIN: B07NPZDCQB – Print Length: 269 pages

This is a great story about a pair that are doing their best to survive on Earth as homeopathic healers. Jada is the main protagonist, of sorts, who sees an add looking for volunteers for a colony ship and decides she wants to participate. She is able to, with very little effort, to convince her colleague and friend, Celie, to join her.

A short period later, they embark on a bus journey...

Unprepared: Surviving an EMP attack on American soil

A book review by Elliot Jackman

BY GAVIN SHOEBRIDGE

ASIN: B083XJHSBC – Print Length: 213 pages

This is a great story about an average couple, Kelly and David, that realize that the reason electronics and cars stopped working is that it was likely an EMP attack on the United States. The pair are preppers, but would probably be considered midrange, as they do not live on a farm on a mountaintop with extremist views about the government etc.

The story revolves around their intimat...
