Celebrating the Three Year Anniversary
Woo hoo!!! This weekend, on November 26, will be the three year anniversary of the original release of The Gatherer. It is a cause for celebration but I have to admit that I am a bit conflicted about the anniversary. The version that was published in 2019 had a different cover than the one currently available and was with a traditional publisher. It sometimes feels like that edition of the book never existed. But it was there at the (amazing) book launch and in the hands of those whose books I signed.
The series has taken a dramatic turn since then. I chose to self-publish after the original publisher discontinued their sci-fi imprint (or department for those not familiar with publishing speak) and it has since been a whirlwind of navigating the self-publishing world and writing the final book of the series, The Storm. I love the current covers of the series and I've been able to give the care and attention to the books and their promotion that I feel they deserve. But it has also been an incredible amount of work. I don't think I had any idea of what I was getting into when I made the decision to get the rights back from the publisher and try self publishing.
I'm please that, despite all the ups and downs, I have weathered the storm (no pun intended) and continue to move forward. Maybe I'll light a candle on Saturday for that original version, in recognition of its role in getting all this started and how brave it was when it went out into the world.
