I just can't believe that Rainbow Rowell would give us Eleanor and Park and then take it back.
I have never been that hurt by a book. I read Eleanor and Park 4 years ago, I remember it gave
me feelings that I did not know existed, I also remember sobbing a lot and maybe even cursing
the ego of the author who just did not want to put her readers to rest. Only a week ago I found
the book at my old house again, and I knew that I needed to get attached to a book like that again.
I needed those feelings that only Rowell could give. And I re-read every bit of it. And I didn't know
that a book could break you like that twice. Everything came rushing back, the goosebumps, the tears, the pain, all of it.

This is not just a young adults-story about high school love. This is about the simplest of ways Park was there for Eleanor, simply by turning the pages of a comic book a bit slower, so her sneaky eyes could read. This is about how he loved her for her weirdness not inspite of it. This is about all the very small details that they could share and it altered both of their worlds. This is about how unsettling this happy little world of theirs was. Everything Rowell wrote felt like they were running out of time with each other, and she was running out of time with them. Like she'd created these two people and now she couldn't control them anymore, it just became way bigger than what she thought it would become.

What she did with this novel is unbelievable. I would never trust myself with a story like Eleanor and Park, if it were mine, I would never trust that I would be reasonable with it. I think I would get them married at 17 with 7 kids, a dog and so much money, and luxury just to calm my self down, just to have them settle and to settle with them, because I know they deserve it and because I know the world can be sometimes way too unfair. ...more "
