Just like audio books. Get your book to that level of readability. I perform my books upwards, out loud, acting the parts out, upwards of twenty times before they go to publication. Some things sound right out loud that might not inside your head. Or vice versa. You're also looking for tone and pacing and cadence. It's a night journey through the forest where a young man meets the devil. The devil shows him what his neighbors, and his true love, are really up to. In the morning he returns, lives his life, grows old and is haunted by what he saw that night in the forest. Maybe it was just his imagination. Maybe it was real. We writers are like that young man, we've been to the dark parts of the forest and seen what goes on beneath the pale moonlight, if only in our dreams. And we are forever changed.(less)
