Native to Victoria, BC, David studied biology at the University of Victoria, worked as a park naturalist, and studied the behaviour of muskoxen for his PhD at the University of Alberta. A curator/researcher at the Canadian Museum of Nature for 20 years, David is also a writer and filmmaker. His varied interests in history began with a childhood encounter with the now-vanished community of Tod Inlet, and have led to the production of six documentary films, four books and several museum exhibits. David was made a Fellow of the Arctic Institute of North America in 1991 and honoured by the World Sikh Organization of Canada for his contributions to the promotion and protection of Canadian Sikh history in 2013.
