Director Michael Noer's film Birthday Girl is set to debut on North American soil at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in February!

This film puts a spotlight on the cruise industry and the unsuspecting crimes that can take place at sea!

The parallel of the film and chapter one titled Happy Birthday in the book publication titled The Untold Tales of a Sailor at Sea unfolds with an individual assaulted on a cruise ship.

Actress Trine Dyrholm, who plays the mother in the film, navigates to try and find justice for her assaulted daughter. A similar correlation to chapter one titled “Happy Birthday”, the assaulted victim, L.C.Tang is left alone to survive the trenches of the cruise industry after her own horrifying ordeal.

Accredited author L.C.Tang (also known as Elsie) has set foot in over 70 countries, touched every port of call on every continent for over 15 years in the cruise industry thus solidifying contacts and support in every corner. In the publication The Untold Tales of a Sailor at Sea, L.C.Tang opens chapter one with her being the birthday girl who escapes to sea from a mundane life on land.

A History of Criminality and Rape at Sea
A recent article by the Department of Justice (DOT) finally released the fourth quarter of last year’s cruise crime data. The DOT data for the fourth quarter of 2023 reveals that fleet-wide for all cruise lines there were thirty-three (33) sexual assaults/rapes. This brings the total number of sexual assaults/rapes on cruise ships for 2023 to a total of one hundred and thirty-one (131) such alleged crimes. Over twenty years ago, the Miami New Times and journalist Tristram Korten published a number of articles revealing Cruise ship’s criminal underbelly. The article revealed the problem with crew members raping cruise guests and the lack of criminal accountability following such crimes. And still today in 2024 the crimes continue.
