I finally did it
Working in the Emergency Room for over twenty years, you see a lot of things. It's people-watching at its best. You see the best and the worst of mankind. Its during my tenure as an ER Physician Assistant I began to gather ideas for a novel, based on interactions with coworkers and patients alike. I never dreamed I'd actually act on these ideas... they were merely flights of fancy. A way to deal with the day in and day out stress of the ER, plugging away thoughts for a later day.
Then COVID happened. I had long past burnout but a favorite author offered to mentor me and many others who'd dreamt of writing one day. This incredibly talented woman took time out of her busy schedule and shared her gifts with us. Well, it was like lighting a match. All of those pent-up ideas began flowing onto paper and eventually into a manuscript. It took a year to get the story how I wanted it, but the first book in the series is now done and will be released in September, 2021.
While the book is a complete work of fiction, there have been many real life situations which have helped to create the plot. The only true to form character in this book was Gran, my real life grandmother. All other characters are fiction and the story changed from real life to create the plot for Deprivation.
So, there are two morals to this story. One, follow your dreams. It's never too late. Two, be careful of your actions. You never know who could eventually, ten to twenty years down the road, turn their experiences with you into a book!
I hope you'll try The Deprivation Trilogy and enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
