I have traveled in many countries and lived in four, yet finding a mystery in my life could be hard. Let's see! How about when I met the Beatles in my home town of London. I was on stage with them on Ready Steady Go. At the time, I was a budding singer and had the chance to sing on TV. However, I chickened out. I have always wondered what my life would have been like had I sung on national TV!(less)

DENIAL OF BIPOLAR

ANOSOGNOSIA

What a long word, you may think, and rightly so. It is a very long word for a condition found quite often in bipolar disorder.

The denial of a bipolar diagnosis.

It seems strange to some people that a person might go to a doctor or psychiatrist and be given the diagnosis of bipolar disorder but not believe it. However, if you think about it, who wants to admit that they have a mental ill Read more of this blog post »

“Jobs: Who can work and try to cope with the vagaries of bipolar disorder? Only a robot. I counted back the other day and discovered I have had 22 jobs in my lifetime, many of them really desirable, lucrative jobs. However, anybody with this illness will gladly tell you that it is nigh impossible to try to work while you are shaking from head to toe with anxiety, running in the restroom five times a day with panic attacks, sitting almost comatose at your desk because your head is full of cotton wool when you’re depressed, skipping around the office singing stupid songs, or thumping your fist on your boss’s desk, screaming bloody murder in his startled face when you are manic. It is out the door with you, Sally Alter. Bring the company car back tomorrow.”

Sally has taken the questions that a person has rattling around their brain, (or friends, family members, or co-workers) and puts it in plain English what a person may experience, either personally or relational.
It was extremely useful to read for a family member to gain understanding and knowledge about what a person living with Bipolar experiences.
Thoughtful and direct communication about her own life and struggles as well as victories. This book is a useful read for many!
Thank you, Sally, for putting in print what people may be afraid to ask another. For being transparent about your own struggles in dealing with an illness, but also offering hope that a full and enriched life can be led by a person dealing with Bipolar.
Well done!”

How to Live With Bipolar is a fascinating, informative book written by someone who has lived with bipolar her entire adult life. Sally Alter describes her experiences in living with bipolar in a clear yet very personal manner. Before I read this book, I knew very little about those who suffer from bipolar and how it impacts their lives as well as those with whom they live or come in contact. Now, I have a very good grasp of the day-to-day challenges they face. You will find your own questions answered in this book. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone seeking an informative personal account written with clarity, integrity. (less)
