Review of Kapaemahu

Kapaemahu Kapaemahu by Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book immediately gripped me and my heart. I feel an affinity and connection to this story as an Indigenous African woman fighting colonialism and to preserve our knowledge and culture. Thank you to the original writer and the authors of this modern day retelling, who have blessed us with this story. The illustrations are breathtakingly beautiful and perfectly suit the story. My favorite illustration is of a male and a female with the male's spirit and the female's spirit, to demonstrate how the mahu have both a male spirit and a female spirit within them. I highly recommend this book to all.

Loving The Book Reviews

I am reading through all of my book's reviews and you know what? I even appreciate the negative ones. Even the negative ones have something positive or good to say mixed in. But mostly, the reviews show that people are really thinking about the topics and issues discussed in the book. Reviewers wrote essays themselves in response to "Plus-Size" and I am grateful for that
