The Magic of Coffee

Coffee. It's an author thing. For what reason, I don't know. Maybe because we're often insomniacs who need to augment our 5-ish hours of sleep with a jolt of caffeine. Maybe it's the smell, or the presence of a hot drink, that boosts our creativity. For whatever reason, it seems coffee and authors (and cats!) always go together.
(Disclaimer: not all authors like coffee. Here's a shout-out to Jaye L. Knight, Given Hoffman, and my soon-to-be-published friend Ari, who prefers tea.)
But for me, there's magic - and inspiration - in a cup of coffee. A warm drink is awfully soothing and cozy. And it can provide you with story ideas. A few months ago, I did a lot of research on coffee production for an upcoming fantasy novel. (Did I just say COFFEE and FANTASY in the same breath? Yes I did.) It was really fascinating, how much goes into your average cup of joe.
So what do you like to have with your coffee? A croissant sandwich, apple-cider donuts, or gingersnap cookies? (That's what I had this morning, and boy, was it good.) And what's your favorite hot drink? Tell me in the comments below!
