Take a journey along a Lilac Honey road with poet AM . ALI
1. Tell us about your book and when it was published?
My book is a collection of poems and it is broken down into parts ‘The Palette and the Canvas’ deriving from the first word in the title of the book ‘Lilac’. It gives a personal intake of pieces of myself in terms of memories and situations that have happened in my life thus far. As for the second part, it is called the ‘Honey Pot’, deriving from a poem on my Instagram @aminahwrites called ‘Creative Bees’, highlighting on the fact that yes, honey is sweet but there is also the encompassment of its hard work. This chapter is a variation of my perception of the world happenings and its people; near, far and afar, like its chapter’s quote ‘Everything isn’t sweet as it seems as there is a common place of bittersweet happenings, sweetened continuations and mild neglect.’
2. Is this your first book? Is it a part of a series or a standalone?
Yes, this is my first book and it is a standalone publication.
3. How long did it take you to write this book?
I usually say three years, but it is probably four or five years. I think ever since I started my Instagram in 2015 and I wrote a piece that I really liked, I would contemplate if to save it for my book and sometimes I would.
4. How did you come up with the title for your book?
Ohhh woww, this is a good question. I think the title really came in formation when I really wanted to dedicate the colour ‘Lilac’ as a title aspect due to the fact my bedroom colour is lilac and pink, which is where I spent the majority of my time penning my craft into a dream of publishing my work into something physical as well. The honey part came after, as I dabbled with words to add to ‘Lilac’ and decided to dedicate it to a short piece I wrote on my Instagram called ‘Creative Bees’, which was really about hard work and making a living for one’s self as a creative individual.
