I love puzzles, and include one or two in every Katie and Maverick cozy mystery. I solve cryptoquips systematically. Often, the author gives a letter clue and I make the substitution. Then I look for common letters and realize the letters most easily recognized are like those given in the winner's circle of another beloved game found on television; R, S, T, L, N, AND E. If there is a question mark, the first word could be WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, or HOW. I look for repeated letters and repeated groups of letters and a good place for the word 'the.'
