Questions

I asked myself a question today on Goodreads and then I answered it. I also discovered that a reader had asked me a question, except that it wasn't a question. It was praise. I love that. I answered her question, even though technically it wasn't a question.

It made me think how cool that you can come to an author's page here and ask them a question and get an answer. So, ask me something? Or I can keep on asking myself questions. I mean, I do that every day. Right now, I am wondering when I should get up to cook dinner and do I really want to make the salmon. It will make the kitchen hot and I am feeling lazy. Maybe I will come back later and tell you what I did.

Okay. Carry on.

Paris With Mandy

I have a new short story that was published in Joyland Magazine.

True Marcy Dermansky fans might recognize that this story takes off where the short story "Very Nice" left off.

The Red Car Out in Paperback

The Red Car is out in paperback.

I loved the cover of the hardcover edition.

I will admit to being worried when my editor told me that my publisher wanted to put a new cover on the paperback.

And behold.

I love it even more.

This is for any one who appreciates a good publishing story!

Thanks for reading. The blog. And the book! If you have read it. If you haven't yet, it's out in paperback...

A New Short Story in Lenny Letter

I am super thrilled to have a new short story in the Summer Fiction Issue of Lenny Letter.

I have been a Lena Dunham fan since the beginning of Girls. She is a creative force of nature and she says what she feels, sometimes without thinking, appeared naked in a green bikini in an entire episode. She has created a space for young women to be feminists. I read Lenny Letter when it appears in my inbox, twice a week.

Here is a link to "Very Nice" --

I hope you like it.

I was interviewed by Mahvash Mossaed about my writing process. The RED CAR releases in paperback on September 12.

I love the new cover of the book. I will be doing some new events this fall and I will post them, too, as the dates come closer. Stay tuned...

Events

I have a lot of them coming up all of a sudden. Including two book clubs. I haven't done a lot of book clubs and I think they will be fun, but sometimes as an author, it can be tricky -- if someone in the book club doesn't like the book and there you are, the author, and how does that work?

I am also reading at Franklin Park reading series in Brooklyn.

And Michele Filgate's Red Ink reading series. Also in Brooklyn.

In March, I am participating in Literary Death Match, which is in Brooklyn.

NPR

I was on the weekend edition this weekend on NPR. It was the first in studio taping I have ever done -- so when I was led into the room for the interview and given the headphones for my interview, I waited for my interviewer. Waited. Looked around. Wondered when she would be coming.

She did not appear because she was in Washington, DC.

Fortunately, I figured something was up and put on my headphones just in time. I missed Ailsa Ailsa Chang's introduction but was there in time to say, "Nice to be here." Whew. The taping wasn't live.

If you want to hear the sound of my voice, I answer questions and read a short passage of The Red Car.

Los Angeles Day

Yesterday, two nice pieces came out of Los Angeles about THE RED CAR.

A short but wonderful review in the Los Angeles Times

http://www.latimes.com/books/la-ca-jc...

And an interview with Matthew Salesses for the Los Angeles Review of Books.

https://lareviewofbooks.org/article/s...

I hope one day to go to Los Angeles. Haven't been yet.

Also, thank you to all of the wonderful readers who have read and written about my novel on this page.

Fat Piglet

I am not so happy about the person who has been elected the new president of the United States. This is an understatement.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a short story, inspired by his treatment of a reality star. I can't seem to write coherent thoughts about the world we now live in, so I am posting this story.

Events

Marcy Dermansky
Finalizing some events.

It is not enough to have a reading any more either. They really are events. When I went to Irina Reyn's launch party, there was this terrific little band playing Russian songs.
