PLEASE NOTE: “Bite Me” is an expanded and revised version of “In Sheep’s Clothing,” a short story which was first published in The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance anthology and in the ebook compilation Under Her Skin with Ilona Andrews and Jeaniene Frost.
“In Sheep’s Clothing” was around 8,000 words and most of the spicy content was removed for inclusion in the original anthology; so I’ve added the heat back in and made slight revisions to descriptions and dialogue, so it now runs about 10,500 words (which is still a short story, so please don’t think the expansion turned this into a novella or novel!)
Content Warnings
Mentions of a serial killer who sexually assaults and murders his victims (these murders take place before the events of the book), fear and suspense, werewolf violence and biting, mild body horror/pain during a werewolf’s transformation, explicit consensual sexual content, swearing and cursing.

Minor updates to a few stories
Hey there Just in case any notifications go out about updated content on your Kindle and you’re wondering, “Meljean, what the heck is this?” — I’ve just done a few cosmetic updates for two Iron Seas novellas, and am in the process of updating a short werewolf story.
Wrecked & The Blushing Bounder — No real changes! Just a cover update to remove the old anthology photo from the bottom, as well as quickly reformatting the ebook (I hand-coded the original versions, so this time I just used Vellum so that updating them will be quicker in the future.)
Bite Me — this was originally called “In Sheep’s Clothing” and this revised version is actually more like the original version, before some of the spicier content was edited out for inclusion in the Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance. “In Sheep’s Clothing” is still available in that antho, and used to be available way back when in an anthology called “Under Her Skin” with Ilona Andrews and Jeaniene Frost. The primary change was adding the sexy stuff back in, plus I’ve run through it and made a few minor changes to dialogue and bulking up the action scenes and emotional interactions a tiny bit. This is still a short story, even though it has been expanded by about 25%.
Anyway, I seem to have lost the signed copy of my contract from 2008 (this is stupid, don’t do this) so I’m currently waiting to hear from the publisher before I can upload it to Amazon (I already tried that and they laughed and said “show me your paperwork” and I was like “oops, I only have the unsigned pdf of the contract” and also, when you only have five days to turn paperwork in, the holidays are the worst time to try to contact a publisher for a copy of a contract and/or a letter acknowledging that you can publish a story because they have non-exclusive rights.)
So the link for the expanded and revised version is coming, but if I decide not to bother much more with it (hot author tip: digitize your a copy of your signed contracts when you receive them) I might give it away free later. We’ll see!

A TOUCH OF STONE & SNOW is now available in print & ebook!
Today marks the release of A TOUCH OF STONE & SNOW, book two in the Gathering of Dragons trilogy! This book continues a few years after we left off with A HEART OF BLOOD AND ASHES, and although the hero and heroine are brand new to the series, you’ll recognize some familiar faces from that story, as well as from THE BEAST OF BLACKMOOR.

THE BEAST OF BLACKMOOR is now available as a standalone ebook!
THE BEAST OF BLACKMOOR is available now as a standalone ebook! This barbarian fantasy romance was previously included in the Night Shift anthology way back in 2014, and introduced the world where the Gathering of Dragons trilogy is set.
Where does it fit in the series?
Chronologically, the novella takes place just before the events of A Heart of Blood & Ashes (Book 1), but they don’t share any characters and do not spoil each other. It doesn’t really matter which one you read first.
There are spoilers for The Beast of Blackmoor in A Touch of Stone & Snow and A Dance of Smoke & Steel. Although you won’t have trouble following the main storyline if you don’t read the novella, The Beast of Blackmoor contains events and characters that are explicitly mentioned in Books 2 & 3. And speaking of Book 2…
A TOUCH OF STONE AND SNOW is only two weeks away! I can’t wait for you all to meet Aerax & Lizzan. But that’s for later. Today, I hope you love Kavik & Mala’s story as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Two Cover Reveals for Milla!
Hi everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful summer, staying healthy and safe. I’ve been busy writing (and not doing much else) but today I have a little exciting news — not one but TWO cover reveals!
We’re also only a little more than a month away from the release of A TOUCH OF STONE AND SNOW, the second book in the Gathering of Dragons series. I can’t wait for you all to read Lizzan and Aerax’s story!
Series Reading Order
The prequel novella for this series was actually released years ago, but I know that the re-release of the novella in ebook now might be a little confusing regarding reading order — and you should be fine reading it either before or after A HEART OF BLOOD AND ASHES! That book barely references any of the events that happen in the novella. A TOUCH OF STONE AND SNOW refers to the novella a little more, but you won’t be lost if you don’t read it and the prequel isn’t necessary to understand the overall story arc (but as with any series, you will probably enjoy recognizing characters from old stories when they pop up.)

Tomorrow’s the release day for A HEART OF BLOOD AND ASHES!
The last time I released something as Meljean or Milla was 2014. If you’ve been following my blog, you know some of the struggles I had getting the Blacksmith out (and with my barbarian story taking longer than I expected.) I talk a little bit about burnout and depression in my interview with AAR — along with some information about my new book and series, a ramble about alpha males in the #metoo era, and also why I won’t be spending a lot of time on my big bad guy in this series. And there’s a giveaway, too!
Today ended up being kind of a rough day. I’d planned to post a bunch of reviews and links, but last night our 26-year-old kitty passed, and I’m still in the process of trying to get a book to my editor, so to put it mildly…I’m a bit wrung out. So that’ll probably come tomorrow with the release post.

Happy New Year! Meljean’s (actually Milla’s) release schedule in 2020, and regarding pen names:
Hey all! It’s about a month away from the release of A HEART OF BLOOD AND ASHES! Just a quick reminder: this series has a new pen name for a reason! It’s darker than my work as Meljean … which might seem funny to say, considering how many dismembered body parts were flying around in the Guardian series and in the Iron Seas, but the overall tone of the books and the world is darker and the love scenes have a more vulgar tone (because they are barbarians!)
So just a heads-up and if you are a reader who appreciates content warnings, I do have some non-spoilery ones on my site: Milla’s content warnings. If you read and enjoyed “The Beast of Blackmoor” in the Night Shift anthology, you’re probably good to go.

I have the title and cover for Book #3, but I’m not yet sure what the release date for it is! Might be 2020, might be 2021.
A couple of people have asked about whether “The Beast of Blackmoor” will be released as an individual ebook, and I’m not sure about that, either! Right now, it’s available in Night Shift.
