The Time To Get Ready Is Now
The time to get ready is now.
This is true for every person on the planet.
Yes, it’s a matter of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2, Isaiah 55:6, Hebrews 3:7).
But it’s also a matter of faithfulness, of living out what God has given us through Jesus.
Let’s look at a parable Jesus told about ten virgins and the coming of the Bridegroom.
Get Ready: Background Context
First, a little background about why Jesus told this particular story to His disciples.
As Jesus left the temple for the last time during His earthly ministry, He told His disciples that the impressive building would be completely destroyed (a prophecy that came true at the hands of the Romans in 70 A.D.).
Just as we all would have done, they immediately asked questions, which were basically “When?” and “How will we know it’s coming?”
In other words, they wanted to make sure they would have time to get ready.
Question #1: “How will we know?”
To answer the “How will we know?” question, Jesus gave them (and us!) many signs to watch for, but the one that particularly stood out to me was one that relates to being ready.
“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.” (Matthew 24:12-13)
In other words, we can’t afford to get complacent in our relationship with the Lord and our service to and for Him!! Lip service and good intentions won’t work!
Question #2: “When?”
To answer the “When?” question, Jesus told them the same message FOUR TIMES, one right after the other!
“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthew 24:36)
“Therefore keep watch, because you do no know on what day your Lord will come.” (Matthew 24:42)
“So you also must be ready because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.” (Matthew 24:44)
“The Master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect Him and at an hour he is not aware of.” (Matthew 24:50)
See why it’s so imperative to get ready? If this background passage hasn’t convinced you, maybe the story Jesus tells next will.
Get Ready – A Story of Wise and Foolish Virgins
Jesus describes how it will be “at that time” in Matthew 25:1-13. Ten virgins, half of them labeled as “wise” and the other half as “foolish,” took their lamps and went to meet the Bridegroom (a symbol for Jesus). The wise virgins not only took their lamps, but also extra oil. They weren’t willing to take any chances when it came to being with the One they loved!
But the Bridegroom was delayed. (To see why, read 2 Peter 3:9.) His coming took longer than anticipated, and because of His delay, they ALL became drowsy and fell asleep. (See how this corresponds with the verse above about the love of most growing cold?)
At a time when they least expected Him (midnight), the call came to go out and meet the Bridegroom. The foolish virgins didn’t have enough oil and had to leave to purchase some. When they returned, the Bridegroom and other virgins had already left for the wedding banquet, the door locked and shut. No matter how hard the foolish virgins pounded and yelled, the door didn’t open.
Instead they received this devastating answer: “I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.” (Matthew 25:12)
Matthew 7:21-23 sheds more light on this phrase, “I don’t know you.” According to this passage, there will be many at the second coming of Christ who will call Him “Lord, Lord,” but it won’t be enough. Jesus expounds on this by saying that only those who do God’s will can enter Heaven. He also calls these impostors those “who practice lawlessness.”
Get Ready: The Lessons For Us
1. It’s easy to think that we’re “ready enough.”
When we see the increasing wickedness of the world around us, it’s often enough for us to give up on God, to let the flame of love for Him die out, and to fall asleep.
The foolish virgins revealed that they were complacent, lazy, selfish, unfaithful, inattentive, and not-at-all in love with the Bridegroom or eager to share eternity with Him.
The wise virgins showed that they were truly ready for His return. This was a day they had prepared for and were waiting for in expectant hope. That’s how much they loved Him and longed to be with Him.
2. It’s easy to assume we have plenty of time.
While it’s true that every generation thinks the end will come during their lifetime, we can’t let Jesus’ delay make us complacent.
Just as Jesus was about His Father’s business, so must we.
“We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.” (John 9:4)
Remember: He will come when we least expect Him. Don’t be lulled into a state of unreadiness!
3. We can’t pretend a relationship that isn’t there.
Nothing is more important to God than our intimate relationship with Him. He proved that by sending Jesus to die on a cross to redeem us and make a way for us to be in right relationship with our Father.
But we mustn’t use Jesus or His holy name as fire insurance to save us at the last minute. All this does is prove that we never truly believed.
God knows our hearts. He knows whether we’re sincere or just giving Him lip service.
NOW is the time to follow Him wholeheartedly!
4. We shouldn’t presume on His patience.
Yes, our God is patient beyond description. Jesus’ delay in bringing judgment is proof.
But that’s exactly what the foolish virgins did. In their self-centered way of thinking the Bridegroom would give them time to get more oil before He took off for the banquet. Their actions revealed that they weren’t truly ready to be united with the Lord forever.
5. We can’t borrow what belongs to someone else.
There is no borrowing a relationship with Jesus and fervent heart required for that relationship. We won’t be able on that day to use a list of why God should let us go to Heaven. Good works, church attendance, living in America, having Christian parents — none of that will be enough.
Instead, we must simply make ourselves ready by being in a right relationship with our Lord God. Let us be found ready and waiting for His return!
A Prayer For Readiness
Lord Jesus, open our eyes to see ourselves in light of the parable of the ten virgins. Help us to be wise, to get ready now, and to stay ready. Help us not be complacent, lazy, hum-ho about our relationship with You, and completely unprepared. May our hearts belong to You and You alone. Keep the fire of our lanterns burn ever brighter with each day. May we be ready and waiting for Your return, eager to spend all of forever with our Bridegroom. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Amen.

The 10 “Peas” I Love To “Taste” (& Book Update)
Hi friends! Sorry for my delinquincy over the past several weeks, but starting up our mini-farm has proved challenging, time-consuming, and energy-zapping.
That being said, we are loving farm life. We’re more active and raising (and eating!) our own food, including the strawberry in the picture to the right.
Our goal is a healthier lifestyle, and we believe that is happening. We still have a lot of work to do, but we can see the results of our first year of work on the place.
A Taste of Farm Life
As much as I love the taste and nutrition in our home-grown produce, this whole starting-a-farm experience has reminded me on several occasions of how good and faithful our Lord is.
Making this move (and the changes that have gone along with it) has been difficult for two middle-aged people who are feeling every one of our fifty-plus years. But God has been with us every step of the way.
Though I’m not particularly fond of peas and have none in our gardens, there are some “peas” in my relationship with the Lord that I love to “taste” on a daily basis. The following devotional will explain what I mean.
A Taste of God’s Goodness
Peace
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7
I know I shouldn’t be amazed, but when I’m feeling down and out, fearful, or even sad, there is nothing like the peace I experience when I turn it all over to God. This sweet “pea” is truly beyond my capacity to comprehend. Without fail, God helps me move to a place of peace and trust.
Power
The following Jeremy Camp song says it all. When I’m feeling helpless, God reminds me that the same power He used to raise Jesus from the dead lives inside me.
Patience
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. –2 Peter 3:9
I don’t know about you, but I blow it (sometimes BIG time!) on a regular basis. My heart is so grateful for God’s patience.
Protection
I’ve noticed that the older I get, the more difficulty I have in physically adapting to my new surroundings. And I don’t just mean climate and altitude, even though adjusting to heat and humidity after cool mountain air has definitely been an adjustment.
My main trouble lies in feeling secure enough that I can rest and sleep. But God has protected us in sooooo many ways. And recently He led me to these verses to remind me of His protection.
“In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety. -Psalm 4:8
“My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.” -Isaiah 32:18
Provision
This “pea” is delivered from God’s hand on a daily basis. He helped us find a house we could afford in an area with a housing shortage. He has given us the health and strength to make much-needed repairs to a seventy-year-old house that sat vacant for two years before we bought it. He protected us from a recent flood. He provided good soil for us to grow our fruits and vegetables and a safe place to raise our chickens. He provided a job for my sweet Hubby. He provided the time for us to help care for our family during Carter’s illness. (UPDATE: Carter has adjusted well to his feeding tube. Now it’s just a matter of him getting old enough to hopefully make the switch to real eating at some time in the future. Thank you for all your prayers!)
Prayer
Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. -Hebrews 4:16
I am so incredibly grateful for prayer; so glad that Jesus made it possible to enter into the throne room of God’s grace at any time. It is there that I taste His peace and thank Him for all His “peas!”
Praise
Have you ever stopped to wonder what it would be like to live in a place where we couldn’t praise God? I have. I can’t think of anything more awful. We were made to worship Him!
I often take my morning cup of coffee outside for my quiet time with the Lord. I love that the birds are already singing His praise when I step out the door.
People
We were also made to be around and in relationship with other people. And I’m so incredibly grateful for the people God has placed in my life. Family members, church friends, new acquaintances, old friends–how lonely life would be without others!
I hope you know how special each of you are to me, and I’m sorry I don’t say it more often. Thank you for your friendship and prayer support!
Purpose
God has a perfect plan and purpose for each life. Sometimes in the midst of trying circumstances, the path might grow a little foggy. But as we trust Him with each step, He provides more light and joy for the journey. Without that sense of purpose and knowing that He has a reason for each heartache He brings us through, life would truly be unbearable.
Thank You, Lord, for having a purpose and a plan for us all!
Presence
Though I love to taste all these “peas,” this last one is my favorite. Without His constant and faithful presence, nothing else would have any meaning. His presence sustains me. He holds my hand and lifts my head. He guides and leads, and never leaves me on my own.
In Your presence is fullness of joy… -Psalm 16:11
“Peas” Wrap-up
I hope that these “peas” I love to taste have reminded you of how incredibly good our God is. There’s no doubt in my mind that y’all enjoy these “peas” as much as I do!
Wishing you many hours of tasting His goodness,
P.S. Book Update – You’ll be happy to know that I am working on the end of the next Miller’s Creek novel Still I Will Follow. If all goes according to plan (which obviously doesn’t always happen since I planned to have it out much, much sooner!), I hope to have the book out before summer’s end!

Finding God’s Will in the Hiccups of Life
Does anyone enjoy the hiccups?
Not me.
But even more frustrating are the life hiccups we experience.
They come on unexpectedly, can last longer than expected, and leave us reeling and searching for answers.
Thankfully, our Lord uses even the hiccups of life for our good, especially as we turn to Him through those hiccups.
My Recent Bout With Life Hiccups
Though I won’t go into the nitty gritty of my own recent bout of life hiccups, I do want to share how I’ve searched for answers and found those answers in the Lord.
My hiccups caused me to question everything about my life.
Was I doing what God wanted me to do?
Was He preparing me for a new line of work?
How could I help provide for our family’s needs and serve Him at the same time?
How could I be sure I was following His plan and not my own?
This led me to a Bible study on the topic of God’s will, and I’d like to share with you what I uncovered in His Word.
God’s Overall Will and Person-Specific Will
I do believe that the verses I’m about to share are God’s overall will. But I also believe that He has a specific will/plan for each of our lives. Rest assured, His plans and purposes will be fulfilled! When we seek Him and trust Him with all our hearts, He directs our steps.
I also want to point out that God’s will is something He wants us to know. It’s not something He keeps a mystery, though in order to get us to seek Him, it may seem like a mystery.
God’s Overall Will As Revealed in His Word
God’s will is:
in line with His Word (Matthew 28:18-20; Micah 6:8). (TIP: Hover over the verses with your cursor and a screen with that verse will pop up on your screen.)
for all to be saved and know the Truth (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
is found as we renew our minds through His Spirit, prayer, and study of His Word (Romans 12:1-2; Psalm 119:105; James 1:5).
for us to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
key in recognizing our spiritual family (Mark 3:34-35).
instrumental as the Spirit intercedes for all believers (Romans 8:27).
for us to give to the ongoing of His work (2 Corinthians 8:1-6).
to serve Him by serving others (Ephesians 6:5-7).
for our sanctification (holiness, Christlikeness) which includes abstaining from sexual immorality (Romans 8:29; 1 Thessalonians 4:2-4).
carried out by doing good to silence the ignorance of foolish people (1 Peter 2:13-16).
often carried out in suffering (Isaiah 53:10; 1 Peter 3:17; 1 Peter 4:19).
accomplished and rewarded by abiding in Him forever (1 John 2:16-17).
a calling on our lives as His saints (1 Corinthians 1:1-3; Ephesians 1:1-2; Colossians 1:1-2; 2 Timothy 1:1-2).
always accomplished through His sovereignty and our faith in Him (Proverbs 21:1; Proverbs 3:5-6; Proverbs 16:33; Ephesians 1:11; Romans 8:28; Daniel 4:3-5; Jeremiah 29:11; Proverbs 16:4).
something He equips us to do (Hebrews 13:20-21; Philippians 4:13).
wrapped up in denying ourselves, taking up our cross daily, and following Jesus (Luke 9:23; Luke 22:42).
something we should pray for (Matthew 6:10).
requires understanding (Ephesians 5:17).
rewarded as we carry it out in our lives (Hebrews 10:36).
Wrap-Up
I hope that this post/mini-study has been helpful to you. It was great reminder (and great comfort!) to me personally, and I pray that it will be for you as well.
Please continue to pray that I will accomplish God’s will.
Even if it means going through the hiccups of life.
Much love to you all,

Update on Carter (and would you please help me?)
Hi everyone! Hope this Easter season has you all rejoicing at the victory that is ours in Christ! This post is to give you an update on our grandson Carter, share the news that the reworking of the books is done, and ask if you would please help out in a few different ways.
Before we get started, I wrote a Facebook mini-devotional that goes along with the pic above if you’re interested:
"After His suffering, He showed Himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive." Acts 1:3a"God…

Please Help By Continuing to Pray for Carter
My family and I are so appreciative of your prayers for our grandson Carter. Words just can’t fully express our gratitude.
Carter will be undergoing surgery on May 2 to replace the NG tube with a G tube. He will be in the hospital for several days after that for recovery, appointments with specialists, and a brain MRI.
Please specifically pray that Carter will do well, for exceptional skill and wisdom for medical professionals, for Carter’s parents and siblings, and for healing and answers.
Thank you!!!

I finally finished reformatting the books and getting them uploaded to various places. This process also involved much website work. You can find the free eBook links (Barnes & Noble, SmashWords, Apple, Kobo) for each book below. (You’ll notice that Amazon isn’t mentioned. More on that at the bottom of this post. *big sigh*)
On each of the book pages, I’ve included easy-to-share links for Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. My goal was to make it as easy for folks to share as possible!

Reviews Also Needed
If you have read any or all of the books above and have accounts at Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Smashwords, & Apple, please consider leaving your honest review for the books on these book sites.
Many people won’t buy a book with no reviews so this not only helps me out, but other readers as well. A Win-Win! :)
Please Help With Amazon
In the past, if an author’s books showed up as free on other book sites, Amazon would price match and move the books from the lowest price they allow authors to set ($0.99) to free status.
Apparently that has changed, even though they still allow you to tell them when you find a book free on other websites.
While those of you with Kindles can get the eBooks for free via Smashwords, if you prefer to get it from Amazon you’ll need to follow these steps (and hopefully Amazon will move the books to free for you – no guarantees!).

In my browser window, this link shows up about half way down the Amazon page underneath the metadata information for the book.
I’ve marked the link with a big red arrow in the screenshot I took of an Amazon book page.

When you click this link, a screen will pop up that asks where you saw the lower price.
Click the first option: Website (Online).
This will expand the screen for you to input more information.

To get the URL (website address) to the other book sites, use the links to the books’ pages on this website that I shared above.
Click the link(s) of your choice (Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, Apple, or Kobo) and new browser windows will open at these book sites. Make sure that it’s the same book you are trying to get Amazon to change the price to free on.
Copy the URL (see photo below) and paste it to the Amazon form.
For the price and shipping cost, type in: “0.00.”
The date will automatically be filled in for you. (Or at least it was for me.) If it’s not filled in for you, just use the current date.
Last, click on the “Submit Feedback” button.
I don’t expect that Amazon will move the book to free automatically. But if enough people complete this process for each book, hopefully they will eventually move the book to free status.
My Dilemma
If they don’t, I’m still in a quandary about what to do next.
My objective was to make all the eBooks free so I wouldn’t be funding agendas that are contrary to God’s Word. But my whole reason for writing Christian fiction and non-fiction in the first place is to make God known. Amazon currently accounts for about 65% of the eBook market, and people who might not ever pick up a Bible would pick up a novel.
See my dilemma?
Please pray that I’ll make the right call here and that my decision will honor God and bring Him glory. Also, I always appreciate your input and insight. Feel free to send me an email.
Still I Will Follow
Now that I’m through with all the reformatting, getting the books up at various book sites, and website work, I’m headed back to the edits and rewrites on the seventh Miller’s Creek novel, STILL I WILL FOLLOW.
At the same time, I’ll be continuing with the mounds of farm work we have this time of year. Though much work has been accomplished, there is still more to do.
As always, God has been faithful to direct my steps between that work and the book work over the past couple of months. So I have no doubt that He’ll continue to lead, guide, and direct!
Thank you so much for your patience, prayers, support, and help!!!
Much love to you all,

How To Whitewash Evil (And The Danger Involved)
My heart is heavy with concern. There is danger involved in winking at and whitewashing evil.
And unfortunately, I see it all around me, and not just in the lives of those who have bought the enemy’s lies.
What really rips at my heart are fellow believers who cooperate with the enemy and encourage others to do the same.
Don’t get me wrong. We all fall short of God’s glory. All of us are sinners.
But it is so easy, especially in today’s world, to move off-track and take others with us. And that is dangerous territory indeed.
Are you white-washing evil? Find out here:

Danger Involved With “Family-Friendly” Companies
As mentioned in a previous post, I recently pulled my books from online marketplaces. My reason? I learned that many companies which sold my books fund activities contrary to God’s Word.
What I uncovered led to a deeper search. Appallingly, even “family-friendly” companies are involved.
Walt Disney, once synonymous with family-friendly entertainment, recently released a remake of Beauty and the Beast with a “gay moment.” They also sponsor GLAAD, an organization that supports same-sex marriage.
I warned about the movie on Facebook, praying it would flop because Christians took a united stand against it.
I feel certain that many did take that stand.
But based on posts by other Christian friends, I know that many believers not only supported the movie with their dollars, but also touted the movie, thereby encouraging others to support it as well.

Danger Involved With Whitewashing Evil
Some who praised the movie even mentioned that the gay moment was only a passing glance.
Folks, please hear me. It’s a passing glance this time to test the waters and to make it seem like no big deal. Next time, they’ll take it a step further. A lingering handshake. And then a kiss. And each time, something God calls an abomination will become more “normal” and accepted.
One small compromise at a time leads to waking up to a world we don’t recognize. Even worse, it leads to not recognizing that person staring back at us in the mirror.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. -Galatians 6:7
Do we really want to reap destruction, not only in our own lives, but the lives of our family and friends? Do we really want to be responsible for leading others down that path?
I know some think they are loving and gracious when they accept homosexuality. But is it loving and gracious to care so little for someone’s soul and spiritual condition?
Again, don’t get me wrong. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Christ-followers hate the sin and love the sinner.
It’s not our job to judge, condemn, and convict. But it is our job to be salt and light and watchmen. We mustn’t call “good evil and evil good” (Isaiah 5:20).
Danger Involved: Frogs and Ostriches
We’ve all heard how frogs jump from hot water, but when placed in cold water gradually heated to boiling, they die.
We’ve also heard how ostriches stick their heads in the sand during danger. Out of sight, out of mind.
Both metaphors apply.
We can’t afford to be complacent and apathetic. We are called to impact our world. If we refuse, the world and its spiral into moral decay will impact us instead.
Plain and simple.
No one can walk two roads at the same time. We can’t claim to follow Jesus and live contrary to His Word. Jesus put it this way: “ He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” Matthew 12:30
To put it another way, ask yourself this question with each decision you make:
Is this decision leading me closer to “Well done, my good and faithful servant” or “Go away from Me; I never knew you?”
Yes, we live in the dispensation of grace. But we are not to use God’s amazing grace as a license to sin (Romans 6:1-2; Romans 6:15-23; 1 John 3:6-9).
Wrap-Up
If we want better for America, we have to do better.
As believers, we need to make choices that put our families and our country back on the right path. This includes living wisely by making God-honoring choices, even if it’s not the popular or politically-correct thing to do.
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him. For the Lord is your life… Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Please Pray For Carter (Plus Book News and More!)
Hi friends!
This post covers three topics. 1) Please pray for Carter (our grandson). 2) Book news. 3) Devotional on John 3:16.
But first let me say that I hope you are all staying warm and dry from this latest wintry blast. In our little corner of northwest Arkansas we only had a few snow flurries, but the wind has been brutally cold.
Those freezing temps meant a halt to farm and garden work (other than making sure our chickens stayed warm and covering up our fruit trees that had already blossomed).
Book News
But to put a positive spin on the situation, the return of winter weather gave me time to work on getting the books re-formatted and up on Smashwords. (NOTE: The books are currently still showing up at 99-cents on Amazon. Once the eBooks go “live” as being free on places like Kobo, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks, Amazon should also adjust their price through its price-matching policies.)
The cold weather also provided time to rework the book’s pages on my website, another “must-do” in my decision to take the books off Amazon.
While I’m still not completely finished, below is a list of the books that have been completed. The links below take you to the books’ pages on this website, which in turn link to the free eBooks (for all eReaders!) on Smashwords.com.
I’d LOVE your feedback on the books’ pages (information, ease of navigation, etc.). So feel free to CONTACT ME with your comments and suggestions or leave a comment on this post. And please, be completely honest (in a kind way, of course!) ;)
Finished Books
The books that have been re-formatted are:
TEXAS ROADS (Miller’s Creek #1)
A PATH LESS TRAVELED (Miller’s Creek #2)
THE WAY OF GRACE (Miller’s Creek #3)
PILGRIMAGE OF PROMISE (Miller’s Creek #4)
A BRIDGE UNBROKEN (Miller’s Creek #5)
CROSSROADS (Miller’s Creek #6)
PIECES ON EARTH (Christmas novella)
THE FRAGRANCE OF CRUSHED VIOLETS (LifeSword Bible study on forgiveness)
Once I complete the re-formatting process for the rest of LifeSword Bible studies and daily devotional books, I’ll head back to STILL I WILL FOLLOW to finish up the rewrites and complete the steps to put the new Miller’s Creek book out for public consumption. :) I appreciate your support, understanding, and patience sooooooo much!
Please Pray For Carter
Thanks to so many of you who have been praying for our grandson Carter. For those who don’t know, Carter was adopted into our family at his birth in August 2016 and has been sick most of his short life.
He’s had trouble keeping food down. Causes like colic, pyloric stenosis, and allergies have basically been ruled out, though precautions are being taken.
In January he was put on a pump and nose tube. That has helped somewhat. At least he’s staying hydrated and gaining some weight. But he’s also had some abnormal numbers on previous tests that still have us all bumfuzzled.
This coming Sunday his parents will drive him to the Mayo Clinic for further testing and appointments with specialists.
We are of course praying for answers and healing, but we’re also praying that he stays clear of any infections which would put these tests/appointments on hold.
Please pray for Carter, his parents, and the medical professionals. Thank you!
Devotional on God’s Perfect Plan
My Bible reading this morning took me to John 3, where Jesus lays out God’s perfect plan of redemption for Nicodemus.
I was once more reminded of how great God’s good news truly is and decided to write a Facebook note devotional. Hope you find the post helpful and joyful! (Also praying the post finds its way to those who haven’t yet placed their trust in Jesus!)

Actually Impact the World for Better When You Shop
As mentioned in last week’s post about taking my books off Amazon, many companies are financially backing destructive and anti-Christian organizations. So the topic of this promised post is to show how we can impact the world for better.
Let me quickly express my gratitude for the prayers and the outpouring of support and encouragement after my decision. I’m so thankful to you all, and God has used you in my life this past week. An astounding number of you commented on last week’s post, and many of you encouraged me to take time to refresh and regroup. God granted us three beautiful weather days this week. I spent them outdoors, working on farm/garden chores, and spending time with our Lord. What a different that has made! :)
Before We Discuss How to Impact the World For Better…
…I feel the need to clarify a few things, just so people know where I’m coming from in writing this post.
We need to continue to hate the sin and love the sinner. This involves praying for and reaching out to others, no matter their particular brand of sin (Luke 6:28; Matthew 28:18-20). The Bible makes it clear that we are ALL sinners by nature (Romans 3:9-18). Apart from the saving work of Christ accepted through faith, none of us are righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21). The writing of this post in no way indicates that I hate other people. Instead I hate the lies of the enemy that people have bought hook, line, and sinker. It’s my responsibility to lovingly do what I can to combat these lies, even at personal cost and inconvenience.
While I do hold certain political beliefs, this post isn’t motivated by politics for me. Instead it’s based on hopefully living in a way that glorifies God and acts in the best interest of others.
I never want others to think that I espouse obedience to God as a means of earning salvation. Never! We’re not obedient to gain salvation (a works-based viewpoint), but we’re obedient because we’re saved (a faith-based perspective).
Impact the World for Better – Pray
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. -2 Corinthians 2:3-5 (NIV)
God’s Word calls us to be people of prayer, and prayer is one of our spiritual weapons (Ephesians 6:10-20).

I know it might go without saying, but I hope (and pray!) that each of us humbly seek God and ask for His guidance in making decisions based on the following information. Please don’t make a decision based on what I do. Instead take the information presented in this post and make it a matter of prayer between you and the Lord.
We can impact the world for better through our prayers. I believe we saw that firsthand through the 2016 Decision America tour organized by Franklin Graham and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Thousands of believers across the country joined together in prayer for America. The Lord heard our prayers and responded!
But we are far from through! We need to keep pounding heaven’s doors on behalf of our world and our leaders.
Impact the World for Better – Vote With Your Dollars
During my internet search to uncover businesses/companies/organizations that are funding the LGBT movement and Planned Parenthood/abortion, I came across a website that scores companies on several issues, the most important of which (IMHO) are marriage, life, and religious liberties. That website is https://2ndvote.com/company-scores.
Each company is graded on a scale of 1 to 5 on these various issues, based on their support/non-support of various organizations and agendas.
I urge you to do the following:
Check out the companies with which you currently do business. If they support things that are contrary to God’s Word, prayerfully consider moving all or most of your business to other companies that don’t support those things.
Do further internet research to check on the accuracy of information. There is a LOT of misinformation out there. But if you find several sites that reveal the same information, there is a good chance that it’s true.
Even be careful what non-profit organizations you support. For example, I wasn’t aware that the Susan G. Komen Foundation supports Planned Parenthood. I also wasn’t aware that March of Dimes and United Way do the same.
Don’t assume that older companies (many of which once espoused biblical views) are safe. Disney is set to re-release Beauty & the Beast with a ‘gay moment.’ They also support same-sex marriage and abortion. (See Franklin Graham’s Facebook post on this movie.)
Watch out for technology companies, including search engines, phone/internet providers, social media sites, computer/software manufacturers, television/movie companies, satellite television providers, etc. Many of these give tons of support to ungodly agendas.
If you’re business-minded and can’t find a godly alternative, please pray about creating businesses that creates that godly alternative.
Voting with our dollars is an effective way to combat evil agendas. Target, after jumping on the transgender bathroom band wagon, has seen a steady drop in their stock price.
To Take Into Consideration:
During my research of these companies on the 2ndVote website, I noticed that many companies fund both pro-choice and pro-life, both same-sex and traditional marriage. This brings up a lot of questions for me. Are these businesses intentionally straddling the fence for financial gain? Are they hoping that one will offset the other? Definitely a matter of prayer!
I can’t help but wonder if some of the companies are unaware that the non-profits they financially support have ties to the LGBT and abortion rights communities. Yet another matter of prayer, as well as possibly contacting those companies to see if they’re aware.
Upon further study, you’ll notice that many of the companies listed on the 2ndVote website show no record of what they support. Again, make it a matter of prayer. Companies that support God’s definition of marriage and life deserve our business!
The bottom line is that companies have the right to do what they want with their money. BUT we have the right, and more importantly the responsibility, to be good stewards of the resources God has given us. I think this involves spending our money in a way that best honors and glorifies Him.
Impact the World For Better – Vote With Your Remote Control
My generation has grown up in the entertainment culture. We’ve also seen it decline in moral values over the years.
In addition to voting with our dollars, we’re also voting with our remotes. I refuse to watch any programming (or television commercials!) that promote a lifestyle contrary to the life Christ died to give us.
Update & Wrap-Up
I continue to work on getting the Miller’s Creek novels and LifeSword Bible studies & devotionals reworked and back on various internet sites. Right now, the only eBook available online is TEXAS ROADS (the first book in the Miller’s Creek novels). It is currently showing up at 99-cents on Amazon (the lowest price Amazon will allow), but this will change to free once I make it free on other sites and then contact Amazon, who will match the lowest price available online.
I do have a few autographed print copies of my fiction available (and can get more as needed). For those interested, you can find out more here: http://www.catbryant.com/books-2/autographed-print-novels/
Praying this post is helpful to you. I also pray that through our prayers, how we spend our money, and what we choose as entertainment, we can impact the world for better and glorify God.
Much love,

Why I Removed My Books From Amazon
It wasn’t a decision I made without much prayer and study, but I have taken the Miller’s Creek novels and LifeSword Bible studies and devotionals off Amazon.
The purpose of this post is to explain what prompted me to remove the books from Amazon and other online stores. I’ll also lay out a different plan for my books and writing, one that better glorifies God and serves others.
Why I removed my books from Amazon (and what I’m doing instead):
Click To Tweet
The Reasons I Removed My Books From Amazon
1. Doing Lots, But None Of It Well
The problem started when I listened to the so-called “experts.” They told me I needed to do this, this, this, this, and that to be successful at my writing career. So I pushed myself to do more and better. I studied diligently, got up early and went to bed late, implemented strategies, tested them, and recorded the data, all while trying to also juggle other aspects of my life.
But as I added these new balls to my juggling act, other balls of my life fell to the ground. Some laid there. Others I tossed back in the air, then raced back to the book business to keep those balls moving.
My health deteriorated–not enough sleep, an upper-respiratory issue that kept returning, weight gain, hip and back problems from too much sitting, a worsening eye condition from too much time staring at a computer screen.
The worst part was the feeling that I was doing lots of things, but none of them well.
Miserable, discouraged, and depressed, I couldn’t help but wonder if my writing was a ball that needed to fall to the wayside.
2. Searching For Answers and A Devastating Discovery
As I worked on STILL I WILL FOLLOW (the next Miller’s Creek novel and a story all about freedom found in following Christ), I prayed for God to break chains in my life. As usual, God convicted me through my own writing of ways in which I need to follow Him better.
Then this past weekend I read several articles in Decision Magazine (put out by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association) about so many who have been deceived, confused, and damaged by the LGBT movement. It broke my heart that the enemy has wreaked such havoc and destruction in human lives. This led to an internet search on companies and individuals who financially fund this confusion and destructiveness, in particular LGBT and Planned Parenthood.
What I uncovered both shocked and appalled me. Many prominent businesses (and the people behind them) fund this deception and sin, and one of these is the founder and CEO of Amazon.
I immediately felt both convicted and conflicted.
My stories are written for and about God. I want to use the writing gift He’s given me to share Him with others in story form. And I truly believe that has happened.
I receive emails and letters on a regular basis about how the books have helped others. A female inmate gave her life to the Lord. Another lady was able to let go of unforgiveness after ten long years. And there are many more examples of how the Lord has used the stories for the good of others and for His glory.
But how could I justify working for companies who used what they made off my books to fund agendas that were contrary to God and His Word?
In good conscience I had no choice but to do the unthinkable. I removed all my books from Amazon.
God’s Faithfulness

An odd mixture of feelings exploded inside of me, like a multi-faceted chemistry experiment. Devastation. Heartbreak. Light-as-air freedom. Peace.
Our God is so good. So faithful. Since that decision, God’s Spirit has led me to verses and biblical examples of why my decision was the right move to make. I’d like to share those with you.
Live As Children of Light
During time in God’s Word, I came across this passage in Ephesians 5:8-11: “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” (Another verse along this same line of thought is 2 Corinthians 6:14.)
Don’t Conform to the World’s Pattern
Another verse that came to mind was Romans 12:2: “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–His good, pleasing, and perfect will.”
Remember the Example of Daniel & His Friends
The entire book of Daniel shows the integrity and courage of Daniel and his friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. No matter what happened to them, they remained committed to following God in trust and obedience. After being taken into captivity, they didn’t cave to the new culture in which they lived. They cared more about staying true to God than their very lives!
Trust & Obey
A spiritual lesson I learned several years ago (and the theme of A Path Less Traveled) is that sometimes the path the Lord calls us to take may not make sense. Biblical examples of this include: God commanding Abraham to take his promised son Isaac and sacrifice him to the Lord (Genesis 22); Moses, at God’s instruction, led the escaping Hebrew people on a route that trapped them between the Red Sea and the Egyptian army (Exodus 14); God telling Joshua to capture the city of Jericho by marching around it and blowing trumpets (Joshua 6:1-27); paring down the army of Gideon from 32,000 to 300 to defeat the Midianites (Judges 7); a young shepherd boy by the name of David going up against a giant named Goliath (1 Samuel 17); and many, many more!
In short, I trust Jesus. Obedience to Him is always the right choice, no matter how difficult.
So What About the Miller’s Creek and LifeSword Books?
As I’ve prayed through what to do and researched my options, I’ve reached peace with the following decision. Here’s the plan:
The eBooks will systematically be made available across many markets.
All the books will be set to perma-free status so none of the sites are making money off the books. (Of course this also means that I won’t make money either.)
My writing will now become a faith-based ministry sustained by donations from readers. (If book-writing is an avenue the Lord wants me to continue to pursue, I trust that He will provide the income to meet our needs. If He chooses to close these doors, I trust He has other work for me to do.)
This new plan will of course require many website, book, and other changes, all of which take time to implement. So please be patient with the process. I’ll let you all know when each book goes live on various sites via blog posts, newsletters, social media updates, etc.
Other Changes I’m Making
To hopefully alleviate my over-packed schedule, I’m using this time of transition to make other changes as well. This will include less time on social media and cutting down on group activity on Facebook. Please know that this in no way reflects a lack of care or concern for any of you. I simply feel the need to cut back to make time for my family, my health, and other responsibilities.
How You Can Help
I covet your prayers during this time of transition, and I thank you for those prayers. You all have been so faithful to lift me in prayer, and it doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated. Please know that I also pray for y’all, and I’m always happy to pray for your specific requests.
Please also help by spreading the word about the free books once the necessary changes have been made. This will help expand the books’ reach and this ministry.
A Special Note About STILL I WILL FOLLOW
I know many of you are anxiously awaiting the release of STILL I WILL FOLLOW, so I hate to deliver this next bit of news.
For now the book’s release is on hold. Edits and rewrites are almost completed, but the needed book and website changes take priority. In addition to all this, we own a mini-farm, and we’re now in the time of year that requires LOTS of work as we prepare/plant gardens and orchards and add new animals.
God is teaching me so much about following Him through this whole process, and I trust that the delay will only make this story better. His timing is always perfect!!!
Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. I know God can and will work all this for His glory.
Much love to you all,
P.S. Be on the lookout for another post coming soon about ways we as believers can impact our world through spiritual warfare and where/how we spend our money. I’ll also share my Internet research about companies that use their resources to fund destructive and anti-Christian agendas.

Book 7 in the beloved Miller’s Creek novels
Enslaved to One, servant to all…
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” ~Galatians 5:13 (NIV)
A freedom seeker has done the one thing she swore never to do: move back to Miller’s Creek. But at what cost? Though Bella followed God’s leading in her quest for freedom, she never imagined He would take her back to a place so full of hurtful memories. And she struggles to understand why. Especially since at every turn folks seem determined to remind her about her checkered past and condemn her for it in the present.

At Miller’s ranch, the hard-as-nails ranch manager yearns to share life with a special someone. But Clay’s not prepared for a softening of his heart toward the woman who betrayed him years ago. To make matters worse, there are strange happenings in and around town that just don’t make sense, including some who want Bella to leave Miller’s Creek. This time for good.
Can Bella and Clay release their chains to find a freedom that’s always been theirs? Or will false accusations and the lies they believe condemn them both to a life of unbroken chains?

SPOTLIGHT: How to Best Respond to the Satan Statue
The Satan statue is back in the news. This time the target is the Arkansas State Capitol grounds.
For those unaware of this statue, Satanists created the hideous statue of Baphomet, a goat-headed “deity” often used to represent Satan. What makes the statue particularly hideous are the two adoring children at the bottom of Satan’s throne.
True confession here: When I first heard of the Satan statue and the attempt to place it on Oklahoma’s State Capitol grounds, I was livid.
I signed a petition and asked others to do the same.
But…
…things didn’t play out as I thought they would. Yes, the statue was denied a home in Oklahoma, but it also meant the removal of a statue of the Ten Commandments (link to Fox News report).
Obviously, the Satan statue demands a response. But what is the best way for believers to respond, especially considering that a statue representing God and Judeo-Christian beliefs is also on the line?
What’s the best way for believers to respond to the Satan statue?
Click To Tweet
I won’t presume to answer that question for you. Quite honestly, it’s a question each of us should take to God.
In this post I hope to look at the situation from all sides, including our real enemy, a relevant story from the Old Testament about our all-powerful God, and other key Bible passages that give insight on how best to respond.
Identify the Real Enemy Behind the Satan Statue
At first glance, it might seem like the forces behind the statue are Satan worshipers. While they call themselves Satanists, you’ll find that these people are actually atheists and secularists whose agenda is anti-Christian. They have no sentiment attached to the Satan statue. They just want all religions equally represented as being equally valid. And backing them up is the ACLU.
Who’s really behind the Satan statue? What’s the agenda?
Click To Tweet
But even these people are not the real enemy.
While we might want to lash out at them, let’s consider this: these people have bought Satan’s lie. They’re deluded and under his control. They’re lost and headed to destruction. When we consider Jesus’ teaching/earthly ministry and God’s Word, our response toward them is to be one of prayer, compassion, and love.
The real enemy here is the one who’s strategy is to “kill, steal, and destroy.” He’s out to devour people and their souls. Even worse, he’s stepped up his game in the past few years because his time grows short.
It might appear that Satan is winning. But taking that perspective is dangerous. It causes us give up, concede defeat, write people off as hopeless, and fail to recognize who our God really is.
Recognize God as Our True & All-Powerful Sovereign
The God we profess faith in is all-powerful. He spoke the world into being. He raised Christ from the dead.
Do we truly believe He is able and Almighty?
If so, we must also realize that He knows what’s going on in the matter of the Satan statue and can handle the matter better than any of our puny human attempts.
Time after time in the Bible, we see God go to battle against false gods. Each one of the plagues carried out against Egypt specifically attacked their man-made, little-g gods. In every instance, God was completely victorious.
God wages war against little-g man-made gods, and He’s Almighty.
Click To Tweet
Let’s look at a less-familiar passage where God soundly defeated a Philistine god named Dagon.
After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. Then they carried the ark into Dagon’s temple and set it beside Dagon. When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! They took Dagon and put him back in his place. But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! His head and hands had been broken off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained. -1 Samuel 5:1-4
Our Best Response – Verses For Consideration
1. Wage War God’s Way.
-2 Corinthians 10:3-5
Why use worldly weapons when our God-given supernatural weapons are infinitely more powerful?
Why use worldly weapons when our God-given spiritual weapons are infinitely more powerful?
Click To Tweet
Government, legislation, and petitions may seem like a logical place to start in this battle, but we must remember these weapons often backfire. I’d much rather reach for spiritual weapons.
What I find particularly striking about the verse above is that waging war with spiritual weapons demolishes arguments and pretensions that set themselves up against the knowledge of God. And isn’t that what this particular battle is really all about?
2. Pray.
If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. -2 Chronicles 7:14
I truly believe every spiritual battle should first and foremost be fought on our knees. God’s battle and victory against Egypt was because He responded to the cries of His people.
That same scenario of God responding to the prayers of His people has played out time and time again in human history, even during our lifetime. It was no coincidence that the Decision America Tour initiated by Franklin Graham played so strongly into the outcome of the recent election. When God’s people pray, God shows up!
When God’s people pray, God shows up!

If you’re in a faith struggle about the effectiveness of prayer, I highly encourage you to watch the movie War Room (video trailer below).
3. Don’t Get Distracted From What’s Most Important
The enemy is a master at distraction, chaos, and confusion. If we’re not especially careful, we’ll be so distracted by what he throws our way that we’ll miss what is most important.
Don’t let the enemy distract you from fellowship, love, and our mission.
Click To Tweet
Fellowship With God
As Jesus and His disciples were on their way, He came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to Him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what He said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to Him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” -Luke 10:38-42
We are created for fellowship with God. That was His plan from the beginning. Then Satan stepped in and marred our intimacy with the Father. Fellowship was restored by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Love God and Our Fellow Man
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” -Matthew 22:36-39
All the commandments are summed up by loving God and our fellow man.
Here of late, the enemy has done extremely well at breaking up the love between believers and other humans. We see these people as the enemy, and then respond out of hatred rather than love.
Make Disciples
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:18-20
Making disciples, both more and better, is at the very heart of why Jesus came to earth. He passed that task on to us.
We simply cannot allow the enemy to get us sidetracked from this all-important task.
Satan Statue – Conclusion
While I intentionally didn’t spell out how to respond to the Satan statue, I do hope this post is a jumping-off point for all of us.
God’s Word has much to say about fighting these types of spiritual battles. Prayer is critical. Only in that position can we find answers on how to best respond to the Satan statue.
Please feel free to add your thoughts in the comments, but remember to do so respectfully.
