The Turning by Davis Bunn

A heavy black gal choir director summoned to apologize to her prodigal sister. A Sunday School teacher with a wasted nephew. A wayward Chinese American woman with a proud heritage who humbly makes peace with her father.
A patchwork of characters with different backgrounds and motivations offer and accept apologies to make peace with the greatest source of conflicts in their lives. They bond to obey God’s call to restrain a rampantly exploding, diabolical lie. Against all earthly logic, a divine command, and an unforeseen meeting results in a challenge to the cultural direction of the nation and wages war against the most powerful and influential industry in North America.

How will they stand against the swelling powers of darkness and greed vying to crush their message of hope? Can they really hear the voice of God? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Homestead by Jane Kirkpatrick

She talks about her first book Homestead that was reissued by Whitaker House. The story is of her and her husband's journey to make a new life on a remote ranch in the 1980s. They have lived there for 27 years. The presentation is part of a local content program C-Span does to introduce eastern viewers to smaller communities throughout the country.
This one features the city of Bend, Oregon.

About the book Homestead:
“We were old enough to know better, yet still young enough to dream.” I wrote those words in 1984 as we prepared to leave suburbia and move to 160 acres of rattlesnake and rock along Oregon’s wild and scenic John Day River. While my husband, Jerry, had long hoped to make this transition to the land, I struggled with the leap of faith. My skills as a mental health professional would have little place on property seven miles from the mailbox and eleven miles from a paved road. For nearly five years, I resisted the move. But one day when I asked, “What will I do there?” a still, small voice said, “Trust. Go to the land and write.”

A Husband For Christmas by Gail Gaymer Martin

I prefer using places I know, and though I had never been to Owosso, Michigan, which is a small town, I made arrangements to visit there and had the help of a wonderful woman who is responsible for the Chamber of Commerce and all of the events found in this amazing small town.
The two day visit I made in Owosso sealed my excitement about writing this story. I not only learned about the many interesting community events in town but also in the adjacent two of Corunna. The cities share many events and every season of the year brings back favorite activities for the community.
Owosso has its own amazing castle built by an author named James Oliver Curwood whose early 1900 novels were made into movies. He used the castle has only for writing and lived in another home in the city. You can read this blog post with photos of the real town of Owosso http://www.gailgaymermartin.com/2014/06/research-setting/
A Husband For Christmas , released by Love Inspired in October, is the second novel in the Lilac Circle Series. It is in stores now. Lilac Circle is the name of the cul-de-sac street where the characters live. It is not the real name of the dead-end street, but I took photos of the homes and layout so the things happen on an image of real street. The first novel, A Mother To Love was released in June 2015 and all the characters appear again in other novels.
Early Reviews:
Romantic Times: "This is a sweet Lilac Circle romance where characters remind readers that all one needs is faith the size of a mustard seed. The characters’ fears of rejection are believable."
Recipe Bonus Most of my novels include a recipe from a dish prepared in the story. The recipe in A Husband For Christmas is one of my personal favorites. It’s easy to make, delicious and a guest pleaser.
Creamy Corn Casserole
Ingredients:1/2 cup butter, melted2 eggs, beaten1 14.5 oz box dry cornbread mix (I prefer Krusteaz Honey Cornbread)1 15 oz can whole kernel corn, drained 1 15 oz can creamed corn1 cup sour cream
Instructions:Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9 x 9 pan.In a medium bowl, combine butter, eggs, dry cornbread mix, corn and sour cream.Pour batter into baking dish.Bake for 45 minutes or until top is golden brown.
