Due to my family and community commitments, I have less time set aside for writing currently than I would like to have. Therefore, I often find myself dreaming up ideas during my "non-author time" and writing them down during my "author time."

When I do have writer's block, though, I have two sure-fire ways of dealing with it.

One is to take a quick break -- even just a few minutes -- and do something else with my mind to clear the air and create space for creative flow. It can be something writing-related, like reading a book, or it can be something completely unrelated, like going for a walk, cleaning, etc.

The other way I deal with it is by switching from project to project! For me, it always helps to have more than one project to work on at a time. That way, if I'm not really feeling one on a given day, I can switch to the other. Having a choice between working on a novel, short story, poem, or even nonfiction gives me a wide range of possibilities. Something's bound to click in one of those areas, even if nothing is there in another.(less)

Where is Star Trek's Andor?

I've been a Star Trek fan for as long as I can remember. I'm the one who convinced our family to start watching Star Trek: The Next Generation when it premiered. When I was in high school, I wore a Starfleet uniform to school for Halloween. My Data cosplay even made it into our high school yearbook.

As an adult, I eventually got around to watching every official Star Trek episode, film, and sho
