Our amazing student A, who recently sat the IELTS test in Canada, shared the following Speaking questions from memory:

Speaking test

Part 1 (Interview)

– Do you work or are you a student?
– What do you like most about your job or studies?
– Where do you live now?
– What do you like about the place where you live?
– Would you like to move to a different place in the future? Why or why not?
– Have you ever been interested in space or astronomy?
– Would you like to travel to space one day? Why or why not?
– Do you think children should learn more about space in school?

Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a city you would like to visit for a short trip. You should say:

– what city it is
– where it is located
– what you would like to do there

and explain why you want to visit this city for a short trip.

Part 3 (Discussion)

– Why do you think cities continue to grow so rapidly?
– What are some advantages of city development?
– What are some disadvantages of expanding cities?
– Do you think large modern cities are better to live in than smaller towns? Why?
– How should governments balance the need for development with protecting the environment?
– In your opinion, what will future cities look like?

Speaking test

Part 1 (Interview)

– What is your full name?
– Where are you from?
– Are you working or studying?
– What do you like about your job or studies?
– Have you ever studied astronomy?
– Would you be interested in taking a course on astronomy?
– Would you like to travel to the moon if you had the chance?
– Do you enjoy looking at the stars or night sky?

Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a time when you met a friend unexpectedly. You should say:

– who the friend was
– where you met them
– what you talked about

and explain how you felt about this unexpected meeting.

Part 3 (Discussion)

– Do you prefer planned meetings or unexpected ones? Why?

– Is your city a good place for young people to live? Why or why not?
– Are there any famous streets or landmarks in your city?
– What improvements would you like to see in your city?
– Do you enjoy travelling to other cities or countries? Why?
– Do you think public transport in your city is good?

Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe an unusual building you have seen. You should say:

– where the building is
– what it looks like
– what it is used for

and explain why you found it unusual.

Thanks to a very kind IELTS trainer, today we’re sharing the Speaking questions their student had in a recent IELTS exam in India:

Speaking test

Part 1 (Interview)

– What is your name?
– Where do you live?
– Do you work or study?
– What do you want to do in the future?
– Which school did you go to?
– Is it a good place to study?
– Is your hometown a good place for young people?
– Let’s talk about languages.
– What languages have you learnt at school?
– Is it important for children to learn other languages? Why?
– Would you like to learn a new language? Why / why not?

Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a photograph or a painting that you like. You should say

– what it shows
– who took / painted it
– how it makes you feel

and explain why you like this photograph or painting.

Part 3 (Discussion)

– Let’s talk about painting and drawing.
– Is it important for children to learn how to paint or draw?
– What kind of skills do children learn from painting?
– Some schools don’t teach painting, why is that?

Latest IELTS General Training Questions Canada August 2025

With thanks to our subscriber A.K., who recently sat the IELTS exam in Canada, here are the Writing questions he remembered:

IELTS Writing Test – General Training

Writing task 1 (a letter)

You work in a supermarket and recently made a mistake at work. Write a letter to your manager. In your letter:

– explain what the mistake was
– say why the mistake happened
– suggest how you plan to fix the problem.

Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Some people believe that travelling is unnecessary because modern technology allows people to explore places through the internet. Others argue that travelling is still valuable.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

– Is there anything you dislike about your studies?
– Do you like looking at photographs?
– What kind of photographs do you enjoy taking?
– How often do you take photos?
