Catching up, one inch at a time.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about my sudden tenure on Goodreads is trying to build a comprehensive list of Books What I Have Read. I mean, the "My Books" section right now doesn't cover all the books I've read this year, much less all the books I've read in my adult lifetime. (We will not be adding children's books that I have not actively re-read in the past decade. That way lies both madness and Dr. Seuss.)
I find myself assessing stacks of books to see whether they've been entered. Typing in an author's name leads to speed-rating everything that author has written that I've read, creating a very odd sort of steeple-effect as I run into various authors. My research shelves really haven't been tackled at all. It's daunting.
(What's more daunting is the idea of what all these awesome book recommendations will do to my to-be-read shelf. Whimper.)
Eventually I'm going to be sitting as empress of a virtual library that measures in the thousands...at which point I'll still be re-reading The Stand and composing rituals for pantheistic extra-dimensional mice. Ah, well. Some things never change.
