Warner Brothers has purchased the film rights for The Selection!
The announcement has just been made! Here's the official word via Deadline.com:
"Warner Bros has won film rights to Kiera Cass’ global bestseller The Selection, the first of a five-novel series, and has set Black List scribe Katie Lovejoy to adapt it. DiNovi Pictures’ Denise DiNovi and Alison Greenspan are producing with Pouya Shahbazian. Lovejoy’s script The Arsonist Love Story made the 2010 Black List.
The book has sold 3.5 million copies worldwide, and two other volumes have been published. HarperTeen just made a two-book deal to continue the series, which is published in 32 languages. Described as The Hunger Games without the bloodshed, it follows 35 underprivileged girls who are chosen to compete to live in a life of luxury. The protagonist, America Singer, is sweet on a young man from her district, but when she’s exposed to the opulence of a royal life, she’s conflicted, even though a rebel uprising threatens the pampered.
As for Lovejoy, she recently developed a pilot for NBC, with Universal Television, Eva Longoria, and John Glenn producing. She previously wrote pilots for NBC, Bravo, and ABC and worked on the staff of the NBC series Dracula. She is repped by CAA and Myman Greenspan. Cass is repped by Red Tree Literary and New Leaf Literary & Media. Andy Fischel and Julia Spiro are overseeing for Warner Bros."
Sooooo, what are your thoughts on a possible Selection movie? I'm sure there will be lots of questions, and I'll try to get to those soon! Thanks for all your support, y'all! These things only happen because of you!

The Selection Series
There’ve been some misunderstandings about exactly how many books will be in the series, when they’re out, and what they even are. I try to keep people updated as best I can, so I’m making this post for reference. Hope this helps!
There will be, in total, five full-length novels in the Selection world:
The Selection (2012)
The Elite (2013)
The One (2014)
The Heir (2015)
The Untitled Fifth Book (2016)
The first three are from America’s perspective, and the final two are from her daughter, Eadlyn’s.
There will also be a companion to the Selection Series entitled Happily Ever After which will be out October 2015. The contents of Happily Ever After are as follows:
The Prince (with the two bonus chapters), Maxon’s novella
The Guard, Aspen’s novella
The Queen, Amberly’s novella
The Favorite, Marlee’s novella
Three scenes from Celeste’s POV
Lucy’s scene (bonus scene from The One)
The bonus epilogue
Where are they now?
A map
Various illustrations
These will be ALL the works I make related to the Selection world. I have plans for other books (including the totally revamped version of The Siren that will be out in early 2016) and some other things I’m playing with. So this isn’t the end of my books period… just the ones in Illéa. Feel free to leave questions, and I’ll try to make this post as complete as possible. Thanks!

The Heir Tour
Since you guys have had so many questions about the tour stops, I went ahead and called all the bookstores/libraries and asked about tickets, times, and book purchases so that you would have all the information in one place. So, if you’re coming to one of the stops on The Heir Tour, this is everything you should need to know:
Christiansburg, VA: Come in early (or as the event starts) to get a ticket. This ticket will double as your spot in line and your number for the raffles we’re doing! Tickets will start being handed out at 4PM. You do not need to purchase my books from the store for the signing, but please support the store by purchasing any book you’re excited about while you’re there.
Washington, DC: This event is at a library, and a local store will be providing books for sale should you need one. No tickets needed, show up whenever, and since you don’t need to buy a book on site, consider hugging a librarian instead.
Myrtle Beach, SC: Color-coded wristbands will be given out if the event passes a certain size, so that will be determined the day of. If you’ve already purchased your books, that’s fine, but please support the store by picking up something else when you visit.
Boston, MA: You must purchase your book from Wellesley Books Store if you’re getting one signed. No need for tickets and show up whenever you like.
New York City, NY: Because the talk and signing is taking place somewhere with limited space, you must purchase a ticket. General admission is $22, and 35 and under is $15. You can purchase them through the 92nd Street Y’s website. Book sales will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.
Princeton, NJ: No tickets needed and show up whenever you like. You may bring books with you, but please support the store by purchasing any new book while you’re there.
Chicago, IL: You need a ticket for the signing line and may start calling basically right now to go ahead and get your spot. You also need to purchase the book from the store if you’re getting one signed.
Albuquerque, NM: No tickets, come whenever, and feel free to bring your own books. Please consider supporting the store by purchasing any new book when you come.
Phoenix, AZ: No tickets, come whenever, and you may bring your own books. Again, please support the store by purchasing a book while you’re there.
I think that’s everything I have as far as info on the stops and hope that clears up a few questions. If you go to my events page and click on the location for any given stop, it will take you directly to the websites for each store if you have any more questions. As far as things on my end go, I will personalize books and happily take pictures. I don’t usually have limits on the number of books I sign. If lines get long, we might have to make a limit or stop personalizing. I don’t see that being a problem though. And, while I always appreciate getting your letters, tiaras, etc., please don’t bring me gifts on tour. It’s hard to pack everything, and I hate leaving things behind! You can always send notes to my PO box.
Alright guys, we’re 49 days out! See you all on the road!

Roundup!
A lot has gone on this week so I thought it might be handy to put it all in one place for you. So, in case you missed it, here’s what happened this week:
First, you guys asked for it, and we finally got it. HarperTeen has released the music from the trailer for The One which, as it turns out, was made especially for that video. You can download it here.
Second, Margot tagged me in the Epic Reads Book Tag. The video is below. If you want to participate, make a video, label it Epic Reads Book Tag, answer the questions, and tag your friends!
Third, I may have done some normal, non-interesting, totally average readings of quotes from The Selection series. If you want to see, here you go.
And finally, my first round of events are up. Yes, I will be going on tour for The Heir. Dates and cities will be coming very soon! And, yes, there are some international trips in the works, but I cannot talk about them until they’re final.
I think that’s pretty much everything. Oh, I also saw this guy. Now we’re done.

Why your preorder was cancelled
Okay, if you are one of my very faithful readers, then you’ve probably already preordered The Favorite or The Selection Stories: The Queen and The Favorite, which were due out March 2015. And there’s a chance that you’ve gotten a notice that your preorder is cancelled, which is weird, yeah? So let me explain.
Yes, your preorder has been cancelled because the e-book of The Favorite and the paperback bind up of The Queen and The Favorite are no longer happening. At least, not in March. Why? Good question. One of the great things about the world of The Selection is that the more time I spend with it, the better it gets. It was amazing (if not a little weird) to see a young Clarkson through Amberly’s eyes, and it was a special opportunity for me to show you just how hard Aspen was fighting for America in his own words. America, Marlee, Maxon, Aspen, and Amberly have all gotten to take a turn sharing their voice, but recently, I felt there was one more character I wanted to give just a tiny, itty bitty, little moment to: Celeste.
With the timing of everything, a few things had to be rethought, and my hope was that you’d be able to have all the stories, in print, in one place. So, instead of simply getting The Favorite in March, in OCTOBER you will be getting a HARDBACK bind up with the following:
The extended version of The Prince
The Guard
The Queen
The Favorite
Three scenes with Celeste (that I still need to name... hmm.)
The second epilogue to The One
Some other stuff
Oh, and did I mention that this will be illustrated?
So, yeah, the awesomeness is being delayed. But it means that you will get bonus awesomeness. I know it’s still a bit of a wait for The Heir, but don’t worry! There will be plenty to talk about between now and then, and I hope your wait for the new (title-less) hardback will be worth it. Leave questions in the comments ,and I will try to update on Friday!
Happy New Year!
UPDATE 12/31/14
Yes! The Favorite will still be released as an ebook! It will be released at the same time as the hardbound book, so you will all get it at the same time, but not be forced to buy books you already own.
No! The date for The Heir is NOT being pushed back. Still coming out May 5, 2015!
Celeste is NOT getting a full novella. It's three scenes across the series from her perspective. One made me cry. I miss that girl!
I don't have a full list of the other content at the moment. We're picking a choosing things. More soon!
The epilogue is the same one you read at MoreSelection.com, just in print now. And this is the same version of The Prince that is in The Selection Stories: The Prince and The Guard, which has 2 more chapters than the e-version.

As 2014 draws to a close...
I want to give you guys a few updates, but first let me say thanks. 2014 was the craziest and awesomest year I've had since I began the journey of publishing The Selection back in 2010. I saw the #1 spot on the NYT list for a second time (something that I though was IMPOSSIBLE!), traveled to new countries, did my first ever solo tour, and got to extend the Selection Series by TWO MORE BOOKS!
These things only happened because of you. And I'm so, so grateful that you guys are as excited about the people in my head as I am. Trust me when I say there are lots of exciting things coming in the new year, and I can't wait to share them with you. For now, I just wanted to make you aware of two things:
First, in case you've missed it, Selection jewelry now exists! Viviane Hebel, who has done some excellent work with other bookish jewelry has added America's songbird necklace, the northstar necklace, Maxon's bracelet, and the engagement ring to her collection. People have been sending in pics, and they look spectacular! Please tweet photos at me if you get something yourself.
Second, the holidays are upon us. With The Heir just around the corner, I thought it might be time for you to get to know the new voice in my head. So here, as a little present from me to you, are the opening lines of The Heir. Enjoy!
Merry Christmas, nerds. I love you!

Things You Must Know About The Heir
First of all, if you've somehow missed my screaming today, let me inform you that THE HEIR HAS A COVER AHHHHHH! Head over to Entertainment Weekly to see it in all its glory!
Second, you now know our heir's name! It's Eadlyn. There's already been a little confusion, so let me help you out here: It's prounounced EED-len. And, yes, Eadlyn is telling the story. If you look at the cover (and watch the awesome video of how it was made) you can kind of see that she is not the same girl her mother was walking into this situation. It's strange getting used to a new voice, but I love her for all that she is, and I hope you will as well.
Third, and this is brand new information as of this second... her twin brother is named Ahren. If you're confused on this one, too, it's pronounced AIR-en... like Aaron or Erin, but not. And Ahren, well, he may be Eadlyn's twin, but he is not her mirror, if that makes any sense.
And fourth, I have been hearing from you all day "Girls weren't supposed to have Selections!" "I thought she was supposed to marry a prince!" and tons of other different thoughts on the cover info. And, yes, that's true. So don't you want to know how Maxon and America's daughter ended up in this position? May 5, 2015, guys. I'm nervous and excited. More info to come over the next few months, I'm sure. EEP!

The Heir, Events, and The Siren!
Hello Selectioners! I have three things I need to update you on, so go get some hot chocolate and snuggle up for a bit… okay, ready?
First, this is news that you should know by now, but in case you’ve missed it, we finally know if Maxon and America are having a boy or a girl. Turns out… it’s both! Yes, we have Schreave twins coming! And as far as who will be born first, it’s our baby girl. What does that mean? How will her/their future unfold? Well, that’s all to come. For now, hope you’re excited to know about the babies, and, of course, stay tuned for more Heir related news coming soon!
Second, the year is starting to wind down, and I have a handful of final events on the horizon. First, I have a visit to Costco in Winston-Salem, NC this weekend. It’s a bit of an interesting situation, so click here for info you might need if you’re coming. I’ll also be heading to the Netherlands as well as YallFest in November. Once I have my final schedule for these trips, I’ll post them on my Events page.
And, finally, some news I’ve been DYING to share! If you’ve recently tried to get a copy of The Siren, you might have noticed it’s kind of impossible. And that’s because IT’S BEING RE-RELEASED THROUGH HARPERTEEN! What does this mean, exactly? Well, first, it means you can't get a copy right now. But mostly it means I get to go back through with my editor and make it the story I always hoped it could be. It will sparkle in ways I couldn’t make it on my own, and that makes me crazy happy! It will also be released in hardback with a new cover and some bonus material for the fancy new bind up! We don’t have a solid release date yet, but it’s tentatively Winter 2016. So early 2016ish. I can’t tell you how happy this makes me. I’m still in love with Kahlen, Akinli, and even the Ocean herself, so I’m thrilled that it will be more polished and available in stores in just about a year.
So, that’s everything I can share for now! Which is a shame because there are even more awesome things happening behind the scenes that I can’t wait to tell you about. Hopefully soon! Later, nerds!

Prequel Time!
I get questions about a lot of the other women in America Singer's life. The maids (of course), Marlee, and (one my personal faves) Queen Amberly. It seems to be quite a mystery to most of us how such a wonderful woman could have ended up with Clarkson. But soon, you'll all know the answer! We're taking you back to the last Selection to see Amberly's story unfold in a new novella!
Descrption for The Queen:
Before America Singer’s story began, another girl came to the palace to compete for the hand of a different prince….
Don’t miss this digital original novella set in the captivating world of Kiera Cass’s #1 New York Times bestselling Selection series. This prequel story takes place before the events of The Selection and is told from the point of view of Prince Maxon’s mother, Amberly. Discover a whole new Selection with this inside look at how Maxon’s parents met—and how an ordinary girl named Amberly became a beloved queen.
