Yes, you could, as each mystery is complete in itself, with no cliff-hangers. However for the full experience I would suggest reading them all, in order! The first three happen to be free at the moment in box set form if you want to give them a try.

Superb. Thirkell rarely dissapoints and this one is wonderful. There is deep emotion quietly done (and enough to bring me to tears) as well as a lot of really sharp, funny observation.
