Vegetable this time Sunlight next

As ever, I am running behind in life. MURDER BY VEGETABLE: The Baby Quilt is out now in both hardcover and large print. It has one of the prettiest covers of any of my books. Or did. I just got to peek at the one designed for this autumn's book--MURDER BY SUNLIGHT and I think it gorgeous.

My own vegetables, those belonging in the garden, are clamoring to be planted. I'm crazy, not stupid, and I know there will be more freezes and probably more snow before it's safe to plant them. So, I'll try to concentrate on the next book and ignore the garden catalogs.

In another bit of news, the first book in the series, MURDER BY SERPENTS: The Mystery Quilt is part of the April shipment of books from Worldwide Mystery (a division of Harlequin). The book is otherwise out of print and that makes me sad but I'm happy that it can be purchased online and that it is being shipped to subscribers.

writing, gardening, not much reading

The exciting news is the third book in the Quilted Mystery series has sold. Murder by Music: The Wedding Quilt is the title and I don't have the publish date yet. I'm busy doing rewrites like crazy. My editor is right about some necessary changes.

Also the first two books, Murder by Serpents and Murder by Artifact have come out on Kindle. How do they get all the words in those little white boxes?

I'm happy to report the garden is coming along after a long, cool and unusual spring. The June threat of snow/freeze was close enough to stunt the growth of many heat-loving plants, killed a few. An extreme wind killed some others, in fact, it blew an eggplant (complete with baby eggplants) right out of the pot, snapping the stem at ground level.

So, those are my excuses for not getting much reading done. Oh, and I've been retesting the new mystery quilt.

I hope you are all have a great summer and getting done every you want.

Wildly busy but have good news

In the midst of summer gardening and some travel, I have just signed the contract for the third book in my quilted mystery series. MURDER BY MUSIC: The Wedding Quilt is the title and I'm stealing time from reviewing the changes suggested by my editor. The other exciting news is that the first two books are now available on Kindle. I hope they will be on other ebook formats soon.

Packing for Malice Domestic

I am trying to get packed for my trip to Malice Domestic in Washington DC. I have to sneak around so my dog doesn't see the suitcase and freak out. She has separation issues. That's like saying elephants are large. Even though hubby will be here to spoil her, she will not be happy.

Malice is a fun conference. There are mystery readers from everywhere and although I have only been once before, the atmosphere seemed very relaxed and friendly.

I will run out now and try to plant a few onions and some garlic. The predicted snow for this weekend shouldn't bother them.

Maybe I'll get some reading done on the planes.

Reading vs Spring

I have been finding my face buried in more seed and garden catalogs of late than in books. Although many parts of the country have been blasted by winter this year, our weather has been unnaturally mild without even our howling winds. (not that anyone is missing those)But, the mildness leads to spring fever and dreaming of tomatoes with taste and eating raspberries with everything. I have been drooling on the collection of garden catalogs and leaving my stack of "to be read" books to gather dust.

Yesterday the city building inspector came by to check on my new garden fence and gave it thumbs up. It is six feet tall with heavy posts and 2"X4" mesh. That's as tall as allowed in town. We do have plans to add temporary posts to the big posts and run wire around the top to add another couple of feet to the height. Now, some of you may be wondering "what the heck?" and others may be wishing for one of your own.

I have a severe deer problem. The town deer have my garden on their regular route and each year there are more of them. I. won't go into my whole rant--but--I enjoy watching them except for when they go into the garden and wreck the place. For those of you not blessed with the critters I will tell you there is a deer rule which says, only one bite per vegetable--never eat the whole tomato and if you don't want to eat any, just destroy the plant.

Happy springtime!
