Matilde Asensi (born 1962 in Alicante, Spain) is a Spanish journalist and writer, who specializes mainly in historical thrillers.

She has more than 20 million readers worldwide and has become the reference of quality bests-sellers in Spanish language. According to the magazine Que Leer she is the ‘Queen of the adventure novels’.

Her books, of an indubitable quality and proven historical documentation, have been translated to 15 languages. The English translation of The Last Cato won the 2007 International Latino Award in the category ‘best mystery novel’ and an honor mention for ‘best adventure novel’. The following year, Everything Under the Sky won the second place for the International Latino Award.

Con más de veinte millones de lectores en todo el mundo, la escritora alicantina Matilde Asensi se ha convertido en un referente para los seguidores del best seller de calidad.

En 1999 publicó su primera novela, El Salón de Ámbar, y con Iacobus (2000) empezó a conquistar un territorio de lectores que copaban entonces sólo algunos grandes escritores extranjeros. Con su siguiente novela, El último Catón (2001), se consagró como una narradora experta y dio el gran salto al extranjero. El último Catón no es sólo su novela más vendida, sino que sigue siendo un referente para los que gustan de la historia, la aventura y el conocimiento. En 2003, en El origen perdido, Asensi combina hábilmente los secretos con los hackers informáticos, y en Todo bajo el cielo (2006) lleva a sus lectores a la China del Gran Emperador. Entre estos dos títulos publicó Peregrinatio (2004), una guía novelada que recupera a los protagonistas de Iacobus para realizar un viaje por el Camino de Santiago. Sus últimas novelas, Tierra firme, Venganza en Sevilla y La conjura de Cortés, conforman la exitosa trilogía Martín Ojo de Plata, que cuenta con más de un millón de lectores. Dicha trilogía fue publicada recientemente en un único volumen, Trilogía Martín Ojo de Plata, que incluía un nuevo prólogo de la autora y un impresionante material inédito.

Las novelas de Matilde Asensi han sido traducidas a quince idiomas. Con la traducción al inglés de El último Catón consiguió en 2007 el Premio Internacional Latino Book Awards en la categoría de «Mejor novela de misterio» y una mención de honor como «Mejor novela de aventuras». En 2008, en el mismo certamen, logró el segundo premio por Todo bajo el cielo en la categoría de «Mejor novela de ficción de época en español».

En mayo de 2011 se le concedió el Premio de Honor de Novela Histórica Ciudad de Zaragoza en reconocimiento a la trayectoria y los méritos de la autora a lo largo de su carrera literaria en relación con el género de la novela histórica. Y en marzo de ese mismo año fue galardonada con el Premio Isabel Ferrer de la Generalitat Valenciana por su extensa y reconocida labor como periodista y escritora.
