Update Jan 2013

I hope everyone is having a fabulous 2013, so far!! Now that the holiday's are over I'm getting back into my routine and thought I should update you on what's been going on.

Blood Debt is on sale for $.99 from now through Jan 15! Yes, I extended my Christmas sale but it will go back to it's normal price of $3.99 on 1/16/13. So if you haven't picked yours up yet, now is a great time!

Centaur Legacy has been out since Thanksgiving. A big, heartfelt thank you for all the fabulous reviews and wonderful comments on my FB page!! No author could ask for a better group of friends!!

The third book in the Touched Series is still not titled, but the first draft is nearly complete. I am HORRIBLE at coming up with titles so I'll likely be running a contest in a few weeks and get some help from all of you on the title. As far as an expected release date? May is a safe bet. I've been writing books 3 and 4 together so hopefully the two won't be too far apart - we'll see!

For anyone who will be at UTopYA in Nashville the last week of June, I WILL BE THERE!! I cannot wait!!

Something that made me *SQUEEE* like a little girl, Blood Debt was nominated for an award at Sizzling PR. I wasn't aware of the contest until a friend tweeted it to me, but if you'd like to vote, here is the link: http://sizzlingpr.com/sizzling-award-... There are some really awesome books to vote for in 27 different categories!

As always, stop by my regular blog for author interviews, book reviews and promos for other authors. http://authnancystraight.blogspot.com/

You can usually find me on FB around 9 pm EST most nights, too! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nancy-S...

I'd love to hear what's going on with all of you, as well!

Latest Adventure

So, it feels like forever since I wrote a post here. I've been trying to finish up Centaur Rivalry and have done a horrible job blogging. Centaur Rivalry went to the Beta readers last night, so I thought I'd take a minute to check-in and say, "hello."

Most of you know I'm not a full-time author. I have a regular job that I love, which requires me to travel - a lot. Most of my books are written on planes, in airports, in hotel rooms, etc. If any of you are ever at an airport and see someone with their nose in their laptop who looks suspiciously like my profile picture - yep, it's probably me! So this week, my schedule was supposed to be:

Sun: fly from Charleston, SC to Detroit, MI,
Tue: fly from Detroit, MI to Baltimore, MD
Wed: work in Quantico, VA
Thurs: work in Washington DC
Fri: work in Quantico, VA then fly home to Charleston from Baltimore, MD

Busy week, right? Yeah, well it got even busier. Many of you know I'm a magnet for crazy, so, sit back, grab a drink, and keep reading.

Sunday: I fly into Detroit as planned. It's supposed to be a 1 hour and 40 minute flight. Ten minutes after take-off it's okay to breakout my laptop so I figured I had a full hour plus to edit Centaur Rivalry. Just about an hour into the flight the pilot came on the intercom, "Ladies and Gentleman, we are making our decent into Detroit. Temperature is a cool 29 degrees. Flight attendants prepare the cabin for landing."
I looked at my watch and was thinking to myself that something must be wrong with the plane, because the pilot was obviously in a hurry to get to Detroit. Sure enough, I stowed my laptop and we were on the ground at 1 hour and 5 minutes. I was thinking - this is GREAT! As we were taxiing the pilot came back on the intercom. "Ladies and Gentlemen, we arrived a little early. When the aircraft comes to a stop I'm going to have to ask that you keep your seat belts fastened and stay seated. Law enforcement will be meeting the plane, they'd like to talk to one of our passengers."

Hmmmm, that explained why he was in such a hurry to get to Detroit. No biggie. Sure enough, as soon as the door opened, one of the passengers was taken away in handcuffs. A few minutes later a second passenger was taken away in handcuffs. (Neither of them was me!) I had the privilege of sitting next to a lady who had been to Charleston for a religious retreat for the weekend and she was VERY anxious to try out her new found knowledge trying to convert me to her religion. Thirty solid minutes of why I should convert - man, I was ready to get off the plane.

When we were finally let off the plane there were fifteen+ law enforcement folks standing outside the gate. I watched the news that night looking for a blurb about my flight and never did hear what the two detained passengers had done, but that was how my week started. Stepped out of baggage claim and wanted to curl into a little ball for warmth - It had been 73 degrees when I got on the plane in Charleston - let's just say 29 degrees was a total shock to my system. Check out the snow on the ground in Detroit - Brrrr!

Monday: In Detroit as scheduled. I was hoping to go to dinner with Amy Bartol (Absolutely love this lady - if you haven't read her Premonition Series, you need to!) She was coming back Monday afternoon from Boston, so we were going to have dinner Monday night. Buuuuuut, my Tue afternoon appointment in Maryland cancelled, so I didn't have anything "work-wise" to do until Wednesday and couldn't justifying hanging out in a hotel room, so I decided to leave Detroit Monday and fly back to Charleston for a couple days. Sounds simple enough, right? Go from a major city to a smaller city in the middle of the afternoon. Yeah, not so much.

I was standing at the Delta ticket counter in the airport for forty-five minutes trying to change my ticket. Eventually the lady was able to get it done and she was very sweet about it. As a way of making my day a little brighter she upgraded me to first class - Niiiiiiice! Unfortunately I couldn't fly directly to Charleston and had to route through Atlanta - no problem, because I was going to be riding in a lazy boy! (Or at least Delta's equivalent to it). Check out all the legroom!

Yeah, I thought that was awesome, too! Until some freak hail storm happened in Atlanta. So, we circled for over an hour waiting for the storm to pass. Okay, if I had to be stuck on a plane for a couple hours longer than necessary I was glad I had the seat that I did. The pilot came on the intercom, "Ladies and Gentleman, the storm is moving slower than we'd hoped and we've circled as long as we can. We'll need to divert to Huntsville to take on some more fuel." Okay, so I won't make it home for dinner, but I should still be home for bed-time. We got fuel and eventually did make it to Atlanta, unfortunately the plane that was to take me home to Charleston had been on the ground when the storm blew through and my plane had hail damage and couldn't fly!! Wonderful. I was in good company because there were literally thousands of us in Atlanta for many, many, many hours! I eventually did get back to Charleston and walked through my front door at 4 am on Tuesday morning.

Wednesday: I flew back to DC and the rest of the week went off without a hitch, well a couple hick-ups, but nothing funny enough to write about. Home Friday night to one of my favorite scenes - that's my youngest sporting his Halloween costume on the trampoline! Yes, I know it's March. It turns out, when you're eight years old, it doesn't have to be Halloween to be dressed like Scooby Doo!

For anyone looking for a Centaur Rivalry update, I'm still looking at about May 15 for a release. So, anyone interested in participating in the cover reveal feel free to send me a message, tweet or comment here and I'll put you on the list. Hope you've all had a great week!

Much Love,
Nancy

Random Questions I have received.

Hi Everybody!

Something you may not know about me: I answer every email, tweet, message or note I receive. I thought it may be fun to compile some of the questions I've received lately and share the answers with you.

1. What was the first thing you wrote as an author?

Meeting Destiny – published 4 years ago.

2. Is there another field of work you saw yourself doing?

I have a great career that I love as a Business Development Manager for a US Manufacturer – writing is what I do with my “me” time. Although I'm thrilled with the success I have achieved, writing is my secondary career. I'm pretty lucky to have two careers which do not collide that both give me a great deal of joy.

3. What guilty pleasure or quirky ritual do you have to have while you are writing?

I like to have my dog, Flash, curled up with me on my recliner with a can of Sour Cream and Onion flavored Pringles. Although I’m not opposed to a handful of bite sized snickers bars, either.

4. Who is your biggest inspiration?

My inspiration changes each time I open my laptop, but one of the authors who inspires me is Amber Garr. She has an amazing career as a scientist, yet writes for the same reason I do – because she loves creating worlds to share with others. Meeting her in person in Nashville earlier this year was awesome – I followed that meeting up with reading her Touching Evil novel and was hooked!

5. What Is your favorite place and time to write?

My living room either after everyone goes to bed or before they wake up.

6. Has anyone made you so mad you wanted to write them into the next book just to off them?

LoL – I have a pretty long fuse, so, no. I can only think of one person ever in my life who I wished bad things on, but I have not written him into any of my books.

7. Do your Characters ever argue with you and who wins?

Once the characters find their voice, I always let them tell the story. I start every book with an outline, but by chapter 2 it is usually out the window.

8. What is the oddest place or time that a book idea has come to you and you just had to stop and write it down?

Driving – it happens all the time. I find myself buzzing into gas stations way more often than my car needs fuel. Thank goodness for texts, because I text ideas to myself a lot!

9. What Genre do you typically write in and why?

I have three books that are Paranormal Romance, four books that are Mythological Romance, and one Suspenseful Romance. I think the common theme is Romance – because everyone wants to be loved, we can all relate to the stories even if the circumstances are a little “out there.”

10. What are you currently working on?

His Frozen Heart released on 11/9/2014. Although it was written as a stand-alone (no cliff hanger), there will be three books in this series. The second book, Fractured Karma, should be published around March 2015.

11. Do you ever put personal experiences into your work?

Yes! All the time!! Funny phrases I hear often make it into books, too. One of my favorites was in Centaur Redemption: "Talking to you is like trying to shove a pig through a python." I still giggle every time I think of that one.

12. Where is the one place in the world you would love to go?

I spent ten years traveling the world while I was in the Marine Corps. While active duty I lived in Hawaii, Orange County CA, San Diego CA, and Virginia Beach VA. I traveled to Japan, Korea, Thailand, Australia, Alaska and a ton of other places. My husband and I have traveled all over the world together for vacations - I wouldn’t mind returning to Thailand, but I’m equally happy to keep my feet planted firmly in South Carolina.

13. What is your favorite food and beverage?

Mountain Dew is BY FAR my drink of choice (shhhh, don’t tell my dentist – he’s convinced I am purposely sabotaging the enamel on my teeth). As far as food goes, I LOVE Vanilla Ice Cream with a warm brownie.

14. We all have Pet Peeves, what is yours?

I’m not big fan of drama. Luckily, there is very little in my life. Every now and again I’ll see a “drama queen” on FB – those are the posts I tend to ignore.

15. What do you like to do to relax?

*Scrambles for the dictionary* Relax? Do people do that? I’ve always thought it to be more theoretical. I have a full-time career, two fantastic sons, three rotten dogs and a husband who I love to spend time with. Relaxing for me is creating new worlds for others to enjoy, although between writing, editing, beta reads, blog tours, ebooks, paperbacks, audios, most days writing doesn't feel very relaxing, either.

If any of you have questions, feel free to type them in the comments or you can email me, too, at nancystraight@gmail.com

Audio Sample: His Frozen Heart

Hi Everybody,

Not enough time to read, but miss getting lost in fictional worlds? Why not try an audiobook?

Audiobooks have changed. You can get the Audible app on your smartphone and listen to books anywhere without the hassle of CD(s). Amazon owns Audible, so you can keep an audiobook synched with the ebook on your kindle. Have I convinced you yet?

Okay, one more try: Check out a sample of His Frozen Heart here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35zAy...

Happy Listening!
