I am a wannabe mermaid and the author of THE MEMORY OF THINGS, SEVEN CLUES TO HOME and several other novels for readers young, old or in between.

Please note that, although I originally tried to assign star-ratings to my book reviews (and, thus, you will see some of my favorite books with stars), I have stopped doing so. A 3-star review, for example, can mean such different things to readers and reviewers, some rarely give more, so 3 means pretty great, to others 3 is barely mediocre. Because of this, it feels arbitrary and capricious to assign them, and I'd rather merely provide (in some cases) my brief thoughts on the book (unless I really can't help myself in giving it 5-stars, which usually means I wish there were lots more to give. . .)

Probably had a 11-year old crush on him, too, etc. He was the Charlie Brown to my Lucy and the Smee to my Peter Pan (yes, I acted in elementary school and middle school). By the time we got to high school, he had become a stoner ("Dead Heads" we called em back them) and we hung out in totally separate circles, but we always, always smiled at each other and waved when we passed on another in the halls. And I can't find him anywhere anymore. And I've looked.

An old acquaintance told me he thought he heard he died. . . but he wasn't sure . . . and this guy shared a name with a fairly famous writer, so when I google it, I get the latter not the former. Gosh, I miss you DE. Hope you are well and not gone. <3 (less)

What Becomes of Loyalty When No One is Loyal to You?

On March 7, 2020, with the early pandemic raging especially in NYC, and booksellers, schools, and libraries all frantically shut or shutting down (not to mention publishing offices), my then-5th title, JACK KEROUAC IS DEAD TO ME came out -- and quickly disappeared, given that no one was around to promote it or even see it on booksellers' shelves. It broke my heart. My earlier books had been c Read more of this blog post »
