England could still fall short
Bokfan and I might seriously disagree on issues, but he always inspires me. So here is some serious cricket stuff instead of my usual flippancy.
England could beat the West Indies on Thursday and still not make it to the quarterfinals of the Cricket World Cup.
The Proteas will qualify if they beat ireland in Kolkata today. [...]

Cricket commentators: Do they make sense?
TWO of the most irritating questions when you're focused on the cricket are: Who's winning? And, after an unexpected result: Was it fixed?
On Saturday, while trying to balance decisions on the washing-up powerplay in the kitchen with the batting version in Nagpur both needed to be treated with the contempt they deserved.
Then there is the [...]

Tahir is bowlilng again
There is now an outside chance that Imran Tahir could play for South Africa against India on Saturday.
Tahir was bowling again on Thursday, raising South African hopes that the Proteas' not-so-secret-weapon will be fit to play against India in a crucial Cricket World Cup match in Nagpur.
The Pakistan-born legspinner fractured his right thumb while taking [...]

Batting pyrotechnics at Centurion
The big hitting this week has not been confined to the Cricket World Cup. At Centurion Park on Wednesday night the Cobras and Titans delivered some batting pyrotechnics of their own.
In one of the most amazing T20 games played in South Africa, the Cobras chased down 222. Yes 222! to win by five wickets and [...]

Eoin Morgan is Irish
Some poor fool sent us this message:
Eoin Morgan is Welsh, numbskulls!
Well, actually, he isn't. He's Irish.
When you are going to be rude in SMSes to us, make sure of your facts.
Morgan was born in Dublin on 10 September 1986 and played for Ireland originally before switching to England in order to play test cricket.
The English [...]

Give England some credit
Now that we have recovered from the shock, can we given England a little credit for beating the Proteas.
There are some irrational emotions regarding England players. One South African cricket writer even admitted to disliking Stuart Broad's "attitude". He did not explain what he meant by it, probably a view of Broad from a distance [...]

Choking in Chennai
SO WHO said this World Cup would be boring? [Well, actually, you did. About three columns ago. — Sports Ed.]
Well, not quite.
I did say it would be fairly tedious until it got down to the business end of the tournament, around March 23 when the quarterfinals start. In between, however, I said there would [...]

Poms Paddywhacked
Inspiration usually comes a day late. That was the case with Ireland's victory over England on Wednesday.
I have to admit at having written off the Micks. England played brilliantly against India and should have won, if their catching had been any good. Watching Sunday's game, it was hard to decide where the emotions lay: I [...]

Proteas not half bad
No doubt the pathetic whingeing about Biff will go on and on. It's become so tedious that it is hardly worth mentioning. But some bloggers seem obsessed.
Graeme Smith is not half-bad as a captain. He gets some things wrong, but mostly he gets them right. It was a brave decision (and not Smith's alone) to [...]

Hello Imram, goodbye Paul
Four wickets on debut, now three wickets in his second match. Imram Tahir, the legspinner that South Africa's cricket selectors were at first reluctant to play, now seems to be a fixture in the Proteas team.
So long, Paul Harris.
