Take the Pledge to Fight Gun Violence

No matter your stance on gun ownership and/or gun control, I know we all agree that, from gang violence in Chicago to terrorism in San Bernadino to mass shootings in movie theaters and schools, our nation is facing an epidemic of gun violence. Meanwhile, our elected officials of both parties, whose primary charge is to protect the nation, are standing by and watching it happen. We sent them to Washington. They work for us. They must listen to us, and they must act accordingly.

Things Writers Love to Hear (In No Certain Order)

1. You should put your book on Oprahs Book Club.
2. You should turn your book into a movie.
3. You should turn your book into a TV show.
4. It must be nice to work from home.
5. Ive always wanted to write a book, but I just dont have free time like you do.

A Signed 1st Edition for a Great Cause

Dear fellow writers, collectors, and booksellers... I'll cut right to it.

My friend Sean has a pretty bad case of cancer... two young boys... a wonderful wife... a career working with adults with special needs... a desperate financial situation... an incredibly high (I'd say 'criminal') deductible... and very few options.

I'm asking if you'd be willing to donate a signed copy of a 1st edition of any one (or more!) of your traditionally published books to help in a fundraiser I'm organizing.

Snow-mageddon Part Deux

The weather these past two weeks - how can I say this - sucks. I mean, it really, really sucks.

Snow on Your Wedding (Book Launch) Day

My wife and I were married in mid-February in 2010 in Wilmington, North Carolina, a coastal city. We chose Wilmington because its where shes from and its where we met, and we chose February because we thought it would be an ideal time to get married weather-wise.

Typically, mid-February is a really mild time in Wilmington not too hot and not too cold and thats exactly what we wanted. Wed chosen to get married in an old, deconsecrated Catholic church, one of the oldest buildings in the city, and we hoped that mild weather would keep it comfortable inside not too hot and not too cold.

My wifes grandmother, who apparently has all the powers of a soothsayer, said, I bet its gonna snow.

14% of Americans Won't Read This, Because They Can't

If youre reading this, then good for you, because a lot of people wont. So what? you may be thinking. Who needs to read another blog post by another author with another book? True. Its not dire that you read my blog or my book or anything else that I may ever write. But it is dire that you read prescription labels, contractual terms on legal and financial documents, and your childrens homework. You may be surprised by the number of Americans who arent able to do the things that all of us who are reading this take for granted.
