Signed First Edition for Phillipines
Hello,
In aid of Authors for the Phillipines I am offering a signed and dedicated first printing (it went into 11 printings)/first edition US hardcover copy of Tell the Wolves I'm Home. Along with this you will get a real copy of The Medieval Woman: A Book of Days, which is mentioned in the book. It is a lovely little hardback diary that can be used for any year.
To bid on this or any of the other wonderful items authors have donated (there's everything from agent and editor manuscript critiques to opportunities to name a character in authors' upcoming books--great holiday gift ideas) and help those hit by Typhoon Haiyan please visit:

Thank you wonderful people of Goodreads. Wishing you all a happy, safe and book-filled November.

A visit in October
Hello lovely people of Goodreads,
Unlike a lot of authors, I haven't done any readings or live events to support or promote Tell the Wolves I'm Home in the US. One reason for this is that I live in the UK, which makes it kind of logistically difficult. Another is that I've been lucky enough to have readers pick up the book and spread the word without me having to set foot to pavement, which is fantastic. In fact, Tell the Wolves just hit the New York Times bestseller list--a minor miracle for a geeky little book like this--and I haven't been in the US once since it first came out in June 2012.
But although events haven't really been a necessity, I have to say that I think I've missed out on one of the really enjoyable parts of being an author by not getting out there--meeting readers.
So, I'm kind of excited to say that I will finally be visiting the US in October 2013. The schedule is still evolving (and I'll tell you how you can help me with this below) but here's what I have so far:
October 4th- RiverRun Bookstore, Portsmouth, NH 7pm
October 7th Gibson's Bookstore, Concord, NH 7pm
October 14th Western Michigan University, Brown Auditorium,
Schneider Hall, Kalamazoo, MI 7:30pm
October 15th Lake Forest Book Store event details TBA, Lake Forest, IL
October 19 & 20th Beverly Hills Literary Escape, Los Angeles, CA
(some amazing writers at this one, here's the link:
http://www.literaryaffairs.net/bhle2013/
Okay, those are the dates I've got pinned down, but if any of you know a local bookstore or library that has expressed enthusiasm for Tell the Wolves and might like a visit from me while I'm over, I'd love to hear from you. My route will cover western Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York from Albany down to NYC. If you live somewhere in there and know a good venue for a reading, signing or talk, please do leave a comment here or drop me a line at carol@carolrifkabrunt.com.
I hope I'll cross paths with some of you on my travels. Meanwhile, I wish you all a summer of stellar reads!

Gratefulness
Hi there
From the very start the people of Goodreads have been wonderful to Tell the Wolves I'm Home. There have been reviews with the kind of enthusiasm a writer can only dream of. Readers have been in touch with me to pass on their own personal stories of loss and recovery and to let me know how Tell the Wolves spoke to their own experiences. I have been well and truly blown away by the response. Right from the start, I've wished I could thank each and every person who read and then took time out of their lives to type up a thoughtful review. It is a true gift to an author to have people do this, to spread the word about a book. I sit and write in my little office in my little house in the rural southwest of England. I am miles and miles away from most of you. Even if I decided to go on a monster book tour, spending months away from my home and family, I could not do what Goodreads does. I can't be the whisper in a friend's ear, saying "read this." After all the hurdles a writer has to jump to get that first book on the shelves (writing it, getting an agent, selling it to a publisher, etc.) I've still always known that I had no power to prevent my book from being one of the many many published each year that slip away unseen and mostly unread. Only readers can do that. And readers can only do that if they've heard about a book. And that's what Goodreads does best; It gets the word out.
I've wanted to say thank you for a long time now, and yesterday I was finally given the reason to do it. Yesterday I heard that Tell the Wolves I'm Home is one of 15 novels nominated for the Goodreads Choice Award in fiction. To say I was surprised to see myself on a list alongside amazing writers like Junot Diaz, Barbra Kingsolver and Jess Walter is an understatement. To know that I'm on that list not because a panel of judges liked the book, but because of all the positive reader response it's had, makes it just about the best news ever. Honestly (yes, really, honestly) I don't care if Wolves wins or progresses to the next stage of the competition. This, right here, is what it's really about.
So, thank you, thank you, thank you!
I wish everyone a year filled with amazing books. If you want a head start on that, take a look at the nominees for the award. There isn't a book on there that wouldn't make for an terrific read:
