June 21, 2011 -COLORADO BOOK AWARD WINNER 2013- 'Letters From Berlin'

On Friday, June 21, 2013,Colorado Humanities held the annual Colorado Book Awards ceremony in Aspen. I was honored to have had my book, LETTERS FROM BERLIN, be chosen as a finalist for the awards and so was very lucky to be invited to attend. As the awards were presented in alphabetical order, Anthology came first, followed very quickly by Biography. I had hardly found my seat before I saw my book (along with the other contenders for the award) up on the large screen above the stage. Soon a judge walked to the podium and, rather deliberately, opened an envelope, pulled out the paper with the judges' decision, and then announced, "And the winner is.LETTERS FROM BERLIN"!

I can't tell you how thrilled I am!

First, my thanks go to you: the reader. And you who went to all the trouble to write a review for Amazon and GoodReads and all the comments on FaceBook. And you who told your friends. With all the effort YOU made, somehow the judges for the Colorado Book Awards became aware of LETTERS, and it's because of you that all this happened. So thank you, thank you! And, on behalf of my mother, who died believing no one would want to hear her story--because it's a German story and a story from the wrong side of the war--thank you for listening to her stories.

Love,
Kerstin

Notes from Kerstin

Publishing my mothers story was something I had suddenly dreaded
when the final clink was heard from the publisher. No more
changes, this is IT! Its about to hit the bookstores in two weeks!

I was suddenly mortified. What had I done? I asked my editor if
we couldnt just NOT
