Interview with Darklight Chronicles Author Greg Turnquist
When fantasy author Greg Turnquist asked me if I’d be willing to post an interview with him on my blog, I was happy to oblige. I critiqued an early draft of his forthcoming novel Darklight and enjoyed it. The story world was fresh and his characters interesting.
Darklight is now under contract for publication, and while he’s waiting for the slow wheels of traditional publishing to make his novel available, Greg has released a couple of short stories that are also set in the Darklight story wo...

Jaguar of Destiny
I haven’t written much about The Ternion Order story world on The Vaetra Files, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately because I’m almost done with the first draft of Book Two (as yet untitled). In this article, I’m going to share a little background about Kyle’s exciting car ride toward his destiny with Clarissa in First Moon.
One of my favorite aspects of writing fiction is getting the chance to research subjects that interest me. With First Moon, one of those subjects was the Jaguar...

Delvan Miners of the Old West
When I first had ideas for writing a magical fantasy set in the Old West, I considered several options for how far to go with the fantasy elements. I could add wizards to the social fabric and call it good, or I could add fantasy races and creatures as well. I decided to do it all.
I’ve read many forum discussions about whether or not fantasy writers should include classic races such as elves or dwarves. Some people are bored with them while others can’t get enough. The bottom line for me is...

Cover Reveal for "Geomancer’s Bargain"
It has been a long time coming, but my new western fantasy, Geomancer’s Bargain, Book 1 of the Western Geomancer series, is in the final stages of publication. I expect to send out the release notice for it by the end of this month.
Geomancer’s Bargain has been my most difficult book project to date for a variety of reasons. I’d say it was even harder than my first novel, Vaetra Unveiled. It certainly took longer, in spite of the fact that I already had four novels under my belt! I learned th...

Golden Dragons of the American Southwest
My grandfather was a huge fan of the westerns “Gunsmoke” and “Bonanza.” I sat with him and watched those television shows many times while visiting my grandparents as a young boy. I didn’t experience the joy of books set in the Old West until I was in high school and discovered The Sacketts by Louis L’Amour. Hollywood has produced many Westerns over the years, and I’ve spent many hours watching them, from the old classics to the latest adventures.
Fantasy has also been a part of my entertainm...

The Magic of Jamie Marchant’s Kronicles of Korthlundia
When I heard that fellow Magic Appreciation Tour author Jamie Marchant was doing a tour for her new release, I was happy to volunteer a spot on my blog. I was even more happy when she agreed to do a guest article about the magic system in her magical fantasy book series, The Kronicles of Korthlundia.
I hope you enjoy Jamie’s article. I think it shows how imaginative authors can be when it comes to inventing a magic system. At the end of the article, you can find out more about Jamie and her n...
