August Authors and Stuff
Hey all! Tomorrow, my blog kicks off the first day of a month of interviews with authors, artists, publishers, hitch-hikers, the occasional documentary-maker, and other people who have made it their life’s work to tell a story. We will be discussing the creative process, diversity in literature (and art) and how adversity, specifically poverty, addiction, and depression, affect creative abilities, and the repercussions of artificially inflicting adversity on one’s self for the sake of art. We will also be discussing the freedoms afforded by life lived on the fringes of society, as well as the dangers.
I hope you’ll all follow this great series, which you can follow by tracking #augustofstuff or #mikinterviewsauthors.
If you’d like your voice to be heard in this discussion, message me about scoring an interview, follow me on Twitter, submit questions you’re like authors to answer, and just generally interact with each other. :)
You can follow it all on my blog at http://mikeverett.tumblr.com

Hey Authors, looking for a stop on your blog tour?
Or maybe you’re not even doing a blog tour but you’d like to score an interview or something. That’s cool too.
I’m looking for authors to interview and feature on my blog during the month of August. Get in touch if you’re interested! I’m specifically looking for literary fiction and literary non-fiction authors, as well as poets (no genre fiction please). If your work either reminisces addiction-, depression- and/or travel-fueled writers like Jack Kerouac, Hunter S Thompson, and David Foster Wallace, or is in direct opposition to their writing, you would be perfect for this.
You would also be a great fit if you write about writers who travel, search for truth, get sad, get drunk, and get stoned. Or, if you’re a writer who hitch-hikes— or a hitch-hiker who writes— I’d love to interview you as well. Please don’t be embarrassed to apply because you think you’re not a ‘real writer’. If you’re writing two sentences in Sharpie on a piece of cardboard while you fly signs or ride highways across America, I’d love to have your voice on my blog.
I will be asking questions about your writing process and how it relates to these topics, so if you’re interested, please send me links to your blog/ books, book synopsis, and maybe just a few sentences about what you have to say about this topic so I know what questions to ask you. Either leave your email in my inbox or email me at missmikeverett@yahoo.com.
Thanks, and I look forward to seeing your words on my blog! :)

I'm thinking of creating an author website...
I have several upcoming publications, and I'd like to keep all my readers up-to-date and provide interesting content, using a blog. I'm considering Wordpress, Blogger, and Tumblr. Which do you prefer? Which is the most professional? The easiest to use as a creator? The easiest to navigate as a reader? Both professionalism and accessibility are very important to me... Suggestions appreciated! Thanks! :)

New chapbook...
I have exciting news! Also, distressing news. I'm preparing a chapbook manuscript for publication. This is a new venture for me, so eeeek!

New Year's Resolution
Okay, okay. I'm excited to announce that I am starting my second book. I've just begun research on it, but my New Year's Resolution is to finish it in 2013/ Hopefully I'll be looking for beta readers by July, so keep an eye out for that if you're interested. Heads up: It's non-fiction. I'm really excited about this and hope my readers are too! :)

Can you take a moment for my bookstore?
Brainfood Bookstore entered Intuit's Small Business Big Wish contest. Winners are decided by a voting process, and the 15 businesses with the most votes will get $5000 to make their wish come true.
As you know, I own Brainfood Bookstore, the only bookstore in Colorado that focuses on locally- and independently- published books. We'd like to expand to include Brainsnacks-- vending machines that dispense books. Wouldn't it be great to walk into a laundromat and be able to purchase a book, written by someone in your own community, to read while you wait for your clothes to dry?
Please do me a favor and check it out-- Especially if you love to support the indie book! :)

First Book vs Second Book
With my debut book published less than a year ago, I find myself torn between pushing my baby on towards greater success, spending all my days seeking reviews and interviews, drumming it up on social media and conducting giveaways... and pursuing the completion of my oft-neglected second novel. Oh, my poor babies, how do I choose a favorite? How do I divide my time and efforts? Such a dilemma this author faces.
