Laura was born at a very early age and never looked back. She overcame her childhood deficiencies of having been born without teeth and unable to walk, and by the time she matured into a recognizable adult she had become a behavior analyst, an internationally-recognized and award-winning animal trainer, a costumer/cosplayer, a chocolate addict, and of course a writer.

Laura writes fantasy in a variety of subgenres as well as non-fiction in the art and science of behavior and training.

Book 3 split into books 3 and 4, which changed schedules a bit. Crown & Creed was a bit of a rush to get it out before the end of the year, so not much advance notice. If you're not on my mailing list (it's infrequent and low-key, LauraVAB.com ), that's the best way to always get the updates.

Thanks so much for asking, and happy new year!(less)

I'll be honest, I've read only a small part of this book. But that's why I won't be reading the rest of this book.

I wanted to love this; it's a fascinating topic with a lot of historic material. I feel bad writing a poor review of the book, because s

“They do not so much as hesitate in their actions, and I realize they cannot see my slick dark coat in the unlit room. Nor can they scent me with their clumsy human noses. They are indeed foolish predators, not only to hunt on another’s territory, but to hunt where their limited senses are useless. And they are very foolish to hunt my Lady.”
Laura VanArendonk Baugh, Hall of Heroes

“If we bring dogs into our human society, it is then our responsibility to teach them how to be comfortable and happy in it, and how to behave as welcome members so they can participate in it. An”

“Yes, the Jews go through a lot of sheep.” “What do you mean?” Gushnasaph asked. “They sacrifice two lambs each day in the Temple in Jerusalem, and then every household sacrifices lambs during their Pesach in the spring. Bet Lahem is good sheep country and close to the city, so the Temple flocks are kept here. This is where the sacrificial lambs are born.”

“Indeed taking all the evidence together, it is not too much to say that there is no single historic incident better or more variously supported than the Resurrection of Christ. Nothing but the antecedent assumption that it must be false could have suggested the idea of deficiency in the proof of it.”
Brooke Foss Westcott

“Conventionality is not morality. Self-righteousness is not religion. To attack the first is not to assail the last. To pluck the mask from the face of the Pharisee, is not to lift an impious hand to the Crown of Thorns.

These things and deeds are diametrically opposed: they are as distinct as is vice from virtue. Men too often confound them: they should not be confounded: appearance should not be mistaken for truth; narrow human doctrines, that only tend to elate and magnify a few, should not be substituted for the world-redeeming creed of Christ. There is – I repeat it – a difference; and it is a good, and not a bad action to mark broadly and clearly the line of separation between them.”
Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

“Truth does not become more true by virtue of the fact that the entire world agrees with it, nor less so even if the whole world disagrees with it.”
Maimonides, The Guide for the Perplexed

“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.”
Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

“A woman of many talents. And intelligent, too. He'd probably have to kill her soon.”
Robin Hobb
