It didn’t take Diego long to do my makeup. Alex was pacing back and forth at that point, waiting for me. Patience wasn’t something he was very good at. I’d even thrown him a chocolate bar to pacify him, but it only kept him busy for a few minutes.    

“There you go, Cupcake. Don’t let Alex smudge your lipstick straight away. You don’t look like the easy type.” After swatting my butt, Diego pushed me toward Alex.

“Finally,” he teased, circling his arms around me. “You look beautiful, Straight Lace.” All I could do was smile in response as his lips pressed urgently against mine.  Diego sighed behind me, but I didn’t really care about my lipstick right then. 

“We’re going on your bike?” I gasped as he handed me a helmet. Alex’s Harley was legendary, but Shane had once told me that he only rode it alone.

“Is that a problem? You’re not scared, are you?”

“Are you kidding? I’ve wanted to go on this bike since I was a kid!” My excitement was obvious. Alex let out a loud laugh and shook his head. 

“You’re not that much younger than me, Nat. Don’t make me sound so old.” I got onto the bike behind him and hugged him tight. “Whoa. Don’t hold me tootight. I need to breathe,” he joked, looking at me over his shoulder. I was still beaming like a Cheshire cat. 

 Alex’s bike was fast. I loved the adrenaline rush that I got as we rode. The growl of the engine sent tremors through my body. With my arms around his waist, I held on tight as Alex accelerated. The sudden rush of wind made my hair that was free from the helmet dance frantically behind my back.  The world around us was flashing by so fast it was a blur. I couldn’t get enough of this feeling. I’d never felt so free on an open road before. 

Alex took us to a secluded restaurant on the outskirts of LA. It was lit up with hundreds of twinkle lights and had ivy climbing the walls of the whitewash building.  

“Where did you find this place?” I asked as he entwined his fingers with mine. “It’s really pretty.”

“I found it on my last ride up here. It looked like our kind of place.” I knew he meant no one would interrupt us here, which I was really looking forward to. It wasn’t very easy to find places outside of his mansion that we could be together. 

He allowed me to go in first. The restaurant was empty. A single table laid up for two was all I could see. “You booked out the entire restaurant, didn’t you?” Realisation hit me. His actions always took my breath away. 

“I wanted to apologise for my outburst earlier. The way I treated you in front of my personal trainer was wrong of me.” 

“You should have brought him instead. He was the one you shouted at.” Truthfully, his outburst had me more concerned than offended. 

“I don’t think of you as a possession. If you thought…”

“Alex, I know.” Touching the side of his face, I tried to make him understand. “You didn’t have to do all of this to prove it to me.” I waved my arms around at his grand gesture. 

“It’s just…I’ve been so stressed these last few weeks. I don’t want to mess thisup. You mean too much to me. You know that, right?” 

“You need to stop worrying about that. I’m not going anywhere. You couldn’t get rid of me even if you paid me to leave. Like it or not, you’re stuck with me.” I nudged him playfully with my shoulder so he knew I was teasing.

I am going to talk about a serious subject today. The one thing that is killing indie authors, and making it impossible to carry on with their writing dream. Book Piracy! Firstly, its not just piracy, its copyright thief. It's illegal to download an author's work without their permission. There are many free downloading sites that offer this service and they are all breaking the law. These criminals make money off thousands of authors by using their work to drive traffic to their sites so they can make money on ads. The authors get nothing! When I last checked my downloads for Wonderlust on one of these sites it was over 70,000 downloads! I'm like most of my author friends in this industry, I have a full time job. I write in my spare time in the hope that one day I'll be able to write full time. Sadly, this dream will never happen if book piracy continues. I've been absent from the book world for 4 years partly due to this. It's not free for authors to publish a book. We have to pay for a cover design, pay for editing of the book and marketing doesn't come cheap either. I only covered the costs of my last book, I made 0% in profit because two days after my book, Colourblind, was released it was on a piracy site with over 10,000 downloads. This is killing the indie publishing market and it needs to stop! People need to be made aware of what is happening! People seem to be very naive and think the authors have agreed to put their books on these sites. We haven't. We use many publishing platforms, but any that are offering up free PDF, EPUB and MOBI downloads are not condoned by us. PLEASE ONLY DOWNLOAD A BOOK FROM AN OFFICIAL SITE LIKE AMAZON OR IBOOKS (There are other sites authors use but these are the most popular) Authors always have sales on their books!! Damn, I've given countless free books to my readers when they've messaged me. Talk to us! Don't go and help these thieves steal our livelihood. If you ignore this blog post and continue to use these illegal sites, then I'm sorry, but you are part of the problem. You're killing indie authors like me, and have no heart! I have to be that blunt. Ebooks cost the price of a Starbucks coffee, and you get to read the books as many times as you want! Readers get a damn good deal in my opinion! I'm starting a movement against piracy/copyright theft! I'm not lying down and taking this anymore. I'm getting the word out and making people aware! Join us! Support the authors not these heartless thieves!

I pulled up outside Rose Cottage, noticing Max’s face in the window.“Hey,” I called as he opened the door. He seemed a little taken aback standing there watching me. Was he going to let me in or not? “Is everything okay?” I asked, worried that I might have come at a bad time.“You look different with your hair down,” he muttered, snapping out of his thoughts to open the door wider for me. “Oh, yeah. I…I…always wear my hair up when I’m working,” I stuttered, realising he must have been annoyed that I’d worn my hair down today. Maybe he wanted to draw me with my hair up. I knew some artists visualised their work before even beginning to draw it. That was how I always used to do it anyway.“I’m sorry. Did you want me to put it up?”“No.” Max frowned, shaking his head at me. “Why don’t you make yourself comfortable in the living room? I was just about to make myself some coffee. Would you like a cup?”“Yes, please. Black with one sugar,” I replied before wandering into the living room. I tried to shove my slight nervousness down to the bottom of my stomach. Could I really do this?Max had already set out all of his art materials. I realized we had another thing in common as I took in the charcoal pencils and large, white canvas. Some of his art equipment looked old, as if it had been handed down to him. I wasn’t sure why I was so intrigued to find out more about this man, but I wanted to know everything I could.“Here you go, Summer.” Hearing his voice come from so close behind me made me jump. I’d become absorbed with looking around at his art materials. It had been so long since I’d seen any paraphernalia like this.  â€œThanks,” I whispered, taking the coffee from his hand. I couldn’t help but notice we both took our coffee black, and it made me wonder if he took one sugar, too. “So, where do you want me?” I’d just made myself sound like a hooker.“The stool, if that’s okay.” Max choked a little on his coffee. I was blushing as I walked over to the stool. Would I ever stop making myself look like an idiot in front of this man?I perched on the small, dark brown stool, not really sure how to pose. I’d never done anything like this before. Most artists preferred being behind the canvas, and I was no exception. This was a little too exposed compared to what I had been used to. Deep down,  I knew I was only doing it because of Max.“Just relax, Summer.” He smiled, touching my shoulder softly. “You’re going to be sitting for a while.” “I have no idea how you want me to pose. I’ve never done this before.”“Just be natural,” he murmured, moving to sit behind the canvas. I was a little annoyed when he did because it obscured my view of him.“So, have you come to Dorset just to sketch?” I asked, making conversation while trying to peer around the canvas.“I’ve come for inspiration, actually,” he answered. It looked as if he was getting all his materials ready.
