Mark McClelland's debut novel, Upload, is a winner of the ForeWord Reviews 2012 Book of the Year Award in Science Fiction, and was listed among the Best Books of 2014 by Chicago Book Review. He published his second book, Curse of the Healing Kiss, in December of 2019. It's a story of love, trust, and jealousy, told with emotional realism, in a fantasy setting inspired by French fairy tales of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Mark double-majored in Creative Writing and Computer Science at the University of Michigan's Residential College, where he won a Hopwood Award for poetry. He's been coding for money since 1992, and works on fiction and poetry as time allows. He writes in search of truths that defy simple, direct expression, and publishes to

I also had a short story in Communications of the ACM, and recently started pursuing publication of my poetry, for the first time in at least twenty years. I'm working on a short story that I think will be worth sharing via publication, as well as another novel. To be honest, I think I'm selective to a fault about what I choose for potential publication. If I don't feel my writing really has something to add to the world, I stow it away -- and what does, when there are so many writers creating so much great literature?(less)

If I can nail down my own motives for creating something, I can often take that insight, go back to my notes and manuscript with a fresh eye, and see a way forward. Which often involves ripping out whatever the most recent scene or dialog was, since that's what got me into the dead end in the first place.

I also find that taking a shower works wonders. Nothing spurs my mind into a state of distracted creativity quite like a hot shower.(less)

Rainer Maria Rilke
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”

“Man, do not pride yourself on your superiority to the animals, for they are without sin, while you, with all your greatness, you defile the earth wherever you appear and leave an ignoble trail behind you -- and that is true, alas, for almost every one of us!”

Nenia Campbell Hi! Thanks for the friend request! And yes, I'd be delighted to R&R it! I love books about virtual reality but they're so few and far between.

I shall send you my email via PM. :)
