Tactics not Passion
Action81.com started out as a general sports site in 2010 with an ambition to be high brow but not much direction.
Fortunately, albeit it didn’t seem that way at the time, I was at Dublin’s dire championship clash with Wexford that summer. My frustration at the performance led to me penning a tactical analysis piece, labelled Tactics not Passion. By the peak of the 2011 campaign the column had developed a strong core following and that inspired me to plan this book. Over the last 12 months I’ve seen parts of Ireland I’d rarely consider trekking to and watched a ton of video, scribbling furiously throughout. The product of that work is now here, and edited, for your enjoyment.
Tactics not Passion looks at the strategies that defined Gaelic Football over the last year. From Sam to Sam, it’s a journey through club campaigns on wet October days to Michael Murphy lifting Sam Maguire and all the Xs and Os in between. Enough rambling, time to tell you how to buy it:
Paperback
There are two ways to buy the paperback edition, which costs €15. You can order it from OriginalWriting.ie or you can meet me directly. In the case of the latter, if you live in Dublin we can find a way to meet in town.
If you don’t I am travelling to several club games through the autumn including Donegal Final (4 Nov). If you are at any of these games email me in advance at EmmetATaction81.com or tweet me @action81 and we’ll find a way to meet. Feel free to tell anyone you know about this too.
Unfortunately the book is not in shops yet but if you think it should be in your local bookshop, tell them to get in touch!
Kindle/eBook/digital
If you’re not in to the whole killing trees thing, the eBook version is available now from Amazon.com (and not .co.uk for some reason). If you want to download it you can get it from this link. I’d welcome any positive reviews for the book from those of you who download as Amazon weights reviews from purchasers highly in their SEO, so the more of you that review the more people that see it. The eBook is also available from iBooks and most other online stores.
Official launch
Everyone is welcome to come along to the official launch of the book on 7 November in Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club. The event starts at 8pm and books will be available to buy on the night.
Answering TnP’s call
This book would be nowhere without its readers and that’s why I’m asking you, the people that read the column to tell every GAA fan you know about it, where it’s on Facebook, Twitter, message boards, or even telling your pals down the pub. Word of mouth is how this site has grown and I’m hoping it’ll help push this book too. To quote those great lyricists PJ and Duncan tell your father, your mother, your sister, your brother, everyone wants to be a TnP lover.
Many of you likely use Goodreads to share information about what you are reading and to get ideas on books to read. In fact if you are reading this it's a near certainty that you do. If you want to give the book a good push here it’d be a big help. Any and all support will be appreciated.
