I also got interviewed by the amazing Hilary Smale from ABC Radio for the event! You can also listen live on the ABC Perth website here.

I was a participating artist for PICA’s Boorda Yeyi symposium which took place on 22nd and 23rd March 2025. It was a great time meeting cool people also working in the immersive arts, listening to presentations by inspiring artists and technologists, and making connections!

Writing To and From Your Inner Child Workshop
I am excited to bring you a workshop at Heartplace in Fremantle!

Writing To and From Your Inner Child
This creative writing workshop aims to connect you with your inner child. All of us have an inner child that wants to be heard in the midst of all the clamour of adult responsibilities, and this workshop aims to help us listen to and respond to this vital inner voice.
Using the stunning adult picture book Marcus and the Shadow written by our facilitator, award-winning writer and artist Judith Huang, which has been adapted into a Virtual Reality artwork that showed at PICA in 2022, we will aim to tune into our deepest needs and emotions, and produce creative writing that nurtures the soul. This workshop is for anyone who has wanted to try their hand at creative writing, and the only requirement is an open mind.
About Judith:
Judith Huang has taught creative and academic writing at Yale-NUS College and Harvard College, and is an award-winning author, artist and translator. The author of EBFP and Singapore Book Award-shortlisted speculative fiction novel Sofia and the Utopia Machine, she is the co-founder of Chilli Jam Open Mic, an inclusive space centering diverse voices in poetry, music and stories in Fremantle. She has a lifelong interest in the teachings of Carl Jung, and as someone with lived experience of mental illness, she hopes to provide gentle and empathetic guidance in her creative writing workshops. She holds a degree from Harvard University in English and American Literature and Language.

“Download Girlfriend” Shortlisted for the Pearl Prize 2025
I’m really excited to announce that my creative non-fiction piece “Download Girlfriend” has been shortlisted for the Pearl Prize 2025! The winner will be announced in Victoria at the Midsumma Festival 2025 in January and I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Narrative Threads: Singapore event
Nicholas B Chua invited Anittha Thanabalan and myself to talk about our novels Sofia and the Utopia Machine and The Lights that Find Us and their respective adaptations to film and VR! Nicholas had also made Barbie dolls inspired by our books. Sofia’s was a Barbie in an “updated” RGS uniform that featured batik!

We had a really interesting discussion about Mediacorp censorship and adaptation, the creepy computer games the Singapore government was making primary school kids play in the 90s, what a perfume inspired by Sofia and the Utopia Machine might smell like, and the importance of games and gaming to our novels (and novel-in-progress for Nicholas!)
Thank you so much Nicholas for organizing and A Nerd Gallery for hosting.

New Venture: Chilli Jam Open Mic
My partner Bobby Liow and I have started a new Poetry, Music and Stories open mic in Perth called Chilli Jam Open Mic! Please follow us @chillijamopenmic on Instagram and Chilli Jam Open Mic on FB for updates on the latest news and events.
We felt there was a need for a diverse and inclusive creative space in Perth and set about starting our own. The first event was on 31st October 2024 and the second on 7th December 2024, and both were a blast! Chilli Jam has found a home in the Fremantle Fibonnaci Centre, a beautiful, artsy space with an elephant mural and a tree growing right in the middle of it – it has to be seen to be believed

That’s my art on the posters and here were our lovely Jammers at the first event!

Do come down if you’re in Perth/Fremantle!
