The Night of Elisa – Character artworks and concept sketches that did not make it to the trade book

When I first started the creative process for The Night of Elisa, my idea was to have a fully painted portrait for each character in the book as well as paintings of scenes, environments and objects. I actually started some of these illustrations and had to put the dream on stand-by for someday in the future.

At the time – as it is now, I had no funding to take hours and hours to make a fully illustrated/graphical edition of the work. To embark in such endeavour, I would need to stop client work, and doing that would mean I would starve to death and sleep under the bridge before I completed the project and my business as illustrator would come to an end. Such a dreadful reality!

There was yet another issue that weighted on me never finishing the original project, and that was the print costs. A fully graphical book the way I wanted would need to be printed in color and due to the length of the story, the final price would be heavy for the readers.

Depending on crowdfunding platforms was not an option. I see them as me, the creative mind, being at the mercy of people. In other words: If they backed my project I would make it, if not, I would be frustrated and back to square 1. No! I am not that kind of person. If I want to do something, I just do it, regardless of people’s approval, as long as I have the means to do it.

Announcement: working on ‘As Black As Ice’ the sequel and final part of ‘As Cold As Thorns’ – now, the secret of The Black Rose will finally be unveiled!

description Nightmares, hallucinations, strange happenings and impossible love have all been traits of As Cold As Thorns contrasting with sarcasm, narcissism, art and extravagance. There is a mystery in the story – the key to everything and that is the infamous, elusive Black Rose.

But what really is the Black Rose? Which powers does it possess?

Henrique, the protagonist, goes through a transformation, from a bright artistic mind and kind, cordial man to someone cold, tormented and shrouded in darkness. Is it love, madness or something else inflicting him this pain and twisted state of mind?

For those who followed the ups and downs of the world’s most acclaimed tailor, the sad story of Amelia, the grim drama of Princess Catalyna and the expeditions towards the infamous rose, you shall no longer be puzzled. You shall have your answers in the Spring of 2018 on the sequel As Black As Ice.

Like the first book in the duology, this one will also be illustrated and have the special layout.

At the moment, I am writing its chapters and doing the editing with Clare Diston https://humanvoices.co.uk whom I have worked in (almost) all my books. This October, a team of beta readers gathered by RBTL Book Tours http://www.rbtlbooktours.com and I are starting the beta reading process for the final part of the story.

The cold, dark mood of the Autumn and Winter seasons in Norway are perfect inspiration to help setting the mood during the writing process, and of course, all the amazing energy and support of those who have read the story and helped me making it better.
