Thoughts on Writing

I write about anything. I'm a techie and enjoy SciFi. Humor is a big thing with me and I've often written technical articles where I've added humor or fiction to make a point. I enjoy spoofs and 'what might happen next' articles relating to TV shows. This is quite lucrative financially although you do get a lot of stick from fans of say Downton Abbey when you proclaim that Lady Edith will have a passionate affair with her maid in the next series (spoiler alert!).

I even enjoy writing romantic fiction (don't tell anyone!) and have tried (and failed) to get published in women's magazines. It helps to be passionate about your subject. I have a wood stove that I'm in love with so I have written several affectionate articles about burning wood!

My new book was originally a made-up bed time story that grew into a saga over several years. Eventually I wrote it down. I tend to write chapters 'off the cuff' and let the characters gradually reveal themselves through the dialogue. They often surprise me. I then storyboard the whole book in a separate file using MS Word. Sometimes I use a pad of scrap paper with each chapter on a separate sheet.

In my Novel, 'From Goats Gruff to Glory' Boris the spider started off as a simple soul but gradually evolved into a highly complex character with all sort of needs, drives and neuroses. I don't talk my characters but I do listen to them talking to one another. They reveal their characters to me as they interact with each other.

Introduction

I'm new to goodreads and have just published my first book on the Amazon Kindle platform. This is where the difficult bit begins - promoting the book!
